Welcome gratefulseedsaver. I hope you can daydream about your garden, look at seed catalogs, and sit in your greenhouse if you have one, then smile, smile, smile!

Thank You flowerweaver!!! I'm content...I have super hot peppers popping up already. I like trading seed as opposed to seed catalogs, whenever possible. I like the vibe more. Come on Spring!!! Hope you're smilin'!!!

Between the "Grateful" and the "Long Strange Trip", do I detect another devotee of the 60's?

Welcome gratefulseedsaver. I use to live in Nebraska. Just north of Omaha in Blair. I does get mighty cold there when the wind gets going.

Hello all!!!
I have actually been a member for 1-1/2 years and I have just decided to start posting. Previously, I was in the read-only mode, though it was sporadic.
I can guarantee that I have many questions. I just hope that you do not mind answering them.
Back to searching and reading...

Ask away TRellis, we get a kick out of sharing our immense wisdom Seriously though, tell us a bit about your interests and what you are doing, we are always curious as to what everyone is up to, try not to see it as stalking

Funny that you should ask, rowan .
When I first joined years ago, I was googling something to do with gardening that led me to here.
Recently I started a search for an intermediate-day, long storage onion which led me to the possibility that the Pukekohe Long Keeper onion (originated in your general corner of the world) might meet my needs,
...which led me to an email exchange (through an intermediary) with richardw ,
...and the resulting email exchange included talk about "landrace" (which gave me a bit of a headache),
...bringing me back to Homegrown Goodness for research on "landrace",
...where, after reading for a bit I think that I have a better understanding of landrace, but...
...I have to buy some more Tylenol to get rid of this bigger headache.
I do think that I have a better understanding of what Richard was trying to convey to me, though.
So that is what I have been up to. You?
You would not, by any chance, have not only a firm grasp of this whole landrace concept, but also the ability to easily explain it, would you?
And for the record, I have been stalked by professionals. It is not as bad as they say, though it can be bothersome at times.

Great reply TRellis. My definition of landrace (as traditionally used by farmers) is not the same as is used on this forum so I won't explain it because it will add to your headache

And yet you increased my headache by informing me that there are at least two versions of the same thing... Doh!!!
One of these days you are going to have to tell me what your definition is and how it differs. Then I can make my own decision about which way is best...
That is until someone informs me that there is a third definition. Oy!!!

That is until someone informs me that there is a third definition. Oy!!! I correspond with a lady, and as close as I can tell her definition of a landrace excludes any domesticated crop...
