Jaune gros de Paris because I got them for free at Baker Creek in MO and Bunkie says they are very tasty! Sweet Meat because they are Remy's favourite and I adore blue pumpkins/squash Old Fashioned Tennessee Vining Pumpkin from SESE which is no longer being offered? I tried them last year after moving in early July. I knew that I didn't have a long enough season between July 10 and October 15th to grow them, but some things you just have to try

I planted out some of the squash several days ago. They seem to be doing well. Even despite that it's now raining and the temperature went down to 41 degrees F. I think it's supposed to go down to 37 tomorrow. I have a few other seedlings out there now (in peat pots) that also appear to be doing well, but I'm wondering if i should bring them in tonight. It's interesting to note that i have started to notice a few differences even in the seedling stage. Hopi Black appears to have a silver mottling on it's leaf. Wild Pueblo is very interesting because when it's first true leaf appeared instead of one leaf it has TWO. Hopi Black and Hopi White might also be growing a second leaf but it is taking them a lot longer for the second leaf to grow. Since the two leaves on Wild Pueblo are so large so early i am forced to wonder if it is going to be a vigorous grower. Hopi Black Wild Pueblo Hopi White

Hopi Black appears to have a silver mottling on it's leaf. Thanks for photos! I adore looking at photos of people's gardens. I love the mottling that is so common on moschata squash leaves. In my garden maximas (on the right) grow faster than moschatas (in the center).

Cucurbita maxima a lot of F2 Pink Jumbo Banana x Galeux d'Eysines
Cucurbita moschata Yokohama and Sucrine du Berry I haven't grown these cultivars so I hope a sunny summer this year because the fresh and humid summer of belgium is not very good for moschata
a light frost is forecast in the morning of next sunday so i wait to plant the seedlings outside

Nice new photo, joseph; very Brigham Young-ish. My sweetheart hated it when I shaved my upper lip like that; guess she missed the tickle.
Back to work! Winter squash this year:

I know I should be growing out some of my Guatemala Blue F2 hybrids, but I want to weed out some of these from my wish list: next year!

Potter, I'll be interested to see your Triamble. I used to have a strain that produced lovely, very smooth three-lobed fruit. These days they all seem to have some ribbing on each lobe.

I'll be interested to see them too.. ;D I've haven't grown triamble before, so I don't no idea what my aquired seed will produce...but I am going to do artificial pollination with them to save my own seeds and hopefully I'm able to supply you a photo in few months time. If the suppliers photo has any credit to what to expect..those in packet look quite ribbed to me. I know what you mean being 'three-lobed'..in all my squash book photos that is how they always look..if cut half..'like a three leaf clover'.

I may have stumbled onto something, but maybe not. Anyway, i was searching last night on squash and came across a variety only referred to as "Zuni". The interesting thing about it is that it also has mottled leaves like Hopi Black. From what i gather, apparently mottled leaves are common in Moschata squash, but rare in Maxima. I am now curious to know if Hopi Black and "Zuni" might infact be the same variety. I've emailed the website of someone who claims to have grown it, so hopefully i will find out soon. Also, does anyone know if the mottling is an adaptation to desert climates? www.avant-gardening.com/newmexico.htmljhered.oxfordjournals.org/content/37/1/27.extractjhered.oxfordjournals.org/content/37/1/28.extract

Australian Butter is one of my favourites - dense, sweet flesh and great colour, both inside and out. It has two attributes I don't like. It's almost too long for my season. It's a nail-biting ride to the finish (first frost). It's also more moist than I like, but that's just me. Other than that, it's excellent. I'm sure those growing it will enjoy it. My thoughts exactly. It's a very good squash, pretty too, although a little more moist than I prefer. It ripens in a normal season here but not in the last few years because our summers have been too cool.
