I greatly regret not having collected glass gallon jugs before they were replaced by plastic or those wretched boxes. I could cut the bottoms off to make perfect cloches, larger than the pop bottles. Actually, that's only one thing I failed to recognize the value of at the time. I wonder what opportunity I'm missing today. Time will tell, and I won't want to be reminded when it does.

That sounds like a great idea. I stop for those large water bottles used with water dispensor systems. They work as great cloches but could blow away. Normally I can stick a crowbar in the ground with them / heap dirt around the lip but glass is nice and heavy.

Ciao all-
I do have good news. The snow melted today and I got a good look at the seedlings. Probably their first leaves won't make it but the secondary leaves and growth centres all look good. Quite honestly, I was pretty amazed at this. I will be much better prepared with proper covers for my early transplants from now on.
