What an odd thing, I was standing in line at Costco and suddenly thought of Dan and his new wife. I wondered how she was doing without Dan in a foreign country, newly widowed.
It wasn't until today, that I realized I was thinking about this and it was Dan's birthday.
I surely miss him and his pep talks.

Life goes on; I think he'd have agreed. He was not just an intelligent man, but a brave one. May we all aspire to his level, and persevere,

I'm still growing tomato varieties that came out of Dan's garden.

The thing is, Life goes on. We will each die, but Life goes on. It may not go on as we think it ought, but it will go on. We may miss an indivdual, but how many individuals have gone before? All whom we have known, and ourselves, are no more than leaves on the Tree of Life, fated to fall in our time.
If gardening teaches us anything, it must be this: that we are part of something greater than ourselves; that we learn about it, to our profit, only in humility.
