Don't let the naysayers get you down Synergy. I've lived with them all my life telling me what I can't do but never encouraging me in the good things I wanted to do. I'm sure I'm not the only one with similar tales.
What about contacting Japanese bloggers? A lot of them speak English.

I've sent a message to "Kitazawa Seed". They might have some connections they can recommend to us and they might also be able to advise us on what types of seed would be most favored. This is the message I sent:
Greetings: I participate on a gardening forum called "HomeGrown Goodness". We are interested in sending seeds to the disaster area in Japan. Can you offer us any advice in our endeavor?
Very truly yours, J. Rutherford
I'll post their response here.

Jo,
Thank you very much for emailing us and we apologize for the late response to your email. It has been advised to donate to the following organizations:
Japanese Red Cross Doctors without Borders International Medical Corp NetHope
These organizations are the triage care at this time.
Thank you very much for your consideration. Japan has much repair ahead.
Best regards, Maya
