Longa di Firenze Torpedo Onions coming out of the field. This seed came from Grow Italian - Franchi. This is a very nice torpedo. It's not a storage onion, but man oh man is it great in salsa. I harvested 3 trays like this. I grilled tomatillos, onions, garlic, a few Anaheims, a little pineapple and one lowly tomato. By the time I chopped it the kids had eaten all the chips....grumble. A-1 Joseph's Onion. Note the one red onion. Joseph, I love the way your genepool has diversity. 20 planted, 20 germinated, 20 harvested. 3 had minor gopher damage...guess what we'll be using at our table? From each of these onions, (unless there was only 3), I sent some out for the CSA to trial. The remaining 3-5 are hanging in the barn. We will replant them and see if we can get some seed production out of the entire group. I intend to save this as a grex of terrific genepool of onions. (The torpedo onions will all be saved separately, as they are not storage onions). Seeds from this should be available next year. Attachments:

A-1 Joseph's Onion. Note the one red onion. Joseph, I love the way your genepool has diversity. I love diversity too... Is that one white onion in the group as well?

Well, she was, but I ate her....I thought perhaps it was a mis-plant on my behalf. sorry. My fault for giving a bad description. I should have said "Primarily yellow onions with about 5% red and 5% white". At least that's my target when planting seed parents. A ratio of about 40 yellow onions, 2 red onions, and 2 white onions. This year one of the red onions was male sterile, so it got chopped out (for messing with my ratio). I don't like the flavor of the red. I love the flavor of the white, but it rots in late summer due to my clayish soil. And neither one stores very well, so I like them for the diversity, but I don't want to swamp the patch with unsuitable parents. So they may provide both selfed plants and hybrids to the seed crop.

I feel great. I've been eating primal (no wheat, minimal processing) for about a year or two. I'm running with the new dog a few times per week. It's summer and I lift a lot of vegetables and irrigation pipe. From time to time I fast for several consecutive days to keep my blood pressure in the normal range.
This morning I weighed 206 pounds. My blood pressure a week ago was 117/76. My current pant size is 33.
These are all the lowest that they have been in decades. I'm overweight, but headed in the right direction.

I've spent the last 8 years about 60 pounds heavier than I've ever been before. Joseph, if you can do it, I can too. Congratulations on your progress, and please keep us posted!
