Hi everybody !! New to site, and newbie gardener. Signed onto idig earlier this week with a question and a very kind someone, who will remain anonymous , was kind enough PMed to invite me here. Although why she would have people she invites not show up here is beyond me. (I know better than to argue with a redhead, I'm married to one !!) I particularly like that this site seems less political, and more focused on the subject of gardening. The help on idig was very good, and I notice quite a few of the same names here. - Johno, don't know if I thanked you properly over there, but I have read your post several times and received insight each time. Very succinct and thought out. Much appreciated. Hope to learn much here, and even help when able. I do have skills, but just starting on the garden side of life. Do know a bit about the Bible, carpentry, computers, cars, motorcycles, ( Vintage Triumphs in particular ), shooting, how not to raise 4 small kids, & yes after 4 you do duct tape a broken diaper on them, homeschooling, how to survive with virtually no sleep. ( 4 kids !!!), & a whole bunch of other stuff. If I can help, I will. If not, I'll tell you right out. I also tend to be wordy, ( no really ) -Sorry- I'm glad I'm not charged by the word here. My posts will get shorter, I just wanted to give you a snapshot of me. Thanks again, -Joe

Joe, I'm so pleased that you are here!! Hope at some point to see a pic of one of the "Teabags"!!! There is an active British bike club in this area, although we don't own a Brit bike, I do enjoy watching them cruise by the farm, which they do quite often in decent weather.
And I look forward to hearing more about your plans to add gardening to your list of life skills.

Well Thanks, Folks !!
Sure makes a man feel " warm & fuzzy" !! Glad I stopped by.
Seriously though, I'm going to get some books to " get the basics". So far I've decided on "Carrots Love Tomatoes" a companion planting guide, and "The Gardener's Bug Book" to identify, and attract beneficial insects. Any comments on these ?? any other suggestions would be appreciated. At least after some book-learn'en I'll be able to ask some what intelligent questions.
And thank you all again, I hope to fit right in right here at the "Oasis Asylum" !!

... Bible, carpentry, computers ... motorcycles ... homeschooling ... Hi Joe, Very glad to meet you! Blue told me she was going to invite you ... we only like the best of iDig to join over here ... ;D I too prefer HGG because it is less political. While there is a wide variety of opinions and beliefs here, we act like adults when we disagree. I used to post a lot at iDig, but "I banned myself" when the politics just got really rediculous, IMHO. But, hey, that's just me and other folks still enjoy that site. You and I have a number of similar interests! We homeschooled our oldest (who is now in the 4th grade) for K4/5 at home, and then our church started a christian school. Only mistake they made when starting the school was naming me as principal. We're in our fourth year and both of my boys are students there. I enjoy motorcycles but am more of a sport bike fan. I appreciate the vintage cycles though. They have a beauty and charm that is missing in the plastic-cased, short wheel-based sport bikes. However, sport bikes can do some amazing things to my adrenalin ... Have you ever been to an AMA SuperBike race? The smell of burnt racing fuel is very addicting ... Well, Joe, welcome aboard. I hope to hear a lot from you ... even if your posts are "wordy" ... you know, kind of like THIS ONE! See ya' Sandbar.

Hi Sandbar! Blue mentioned you to me also. (She seems very sweet.) Principal huh? What were they thinking ?? No seriously, that is an tremendous ministry. We will be praying for you & yours. Hope they still approve of their choice when they find out about your AMA Super Bike project in shop class. Shhhhhh I used to ride a Kawasaki 500 Mach III, when it was the " fastest motorcycle in the world" - 16 yrs old and bullet proof. God rode with me for sure, even though I didn't know him then. Almost 40 years later, and proof positive I'm not bullet proof (but highly bullet resistant) I've slowed down a bit. 1972 Triumph Bonneville 650 5 speed - T120V. (Still getting her ready to join the Ton Up Club, at least one time.) & no I haven't been to an AMA Super Bike event, but I'll change that when you get that shop project done ...what?? oh My kids are cyberschooling this year. Seems to be working out great. Girl 12 / girl 10/ boy 6 & my bookend, Girl 3. of course the 3 yr old isn't in classes yet, but don't try to tell her that, we work/play with her and she calls it school. I the larger sense, she is learning so I see her point. I'll post pics if I ever figure out how, The bike, kids, pig, chickens, garden, and whatever. Hopefully I'll get one of the "Little Teabags" Blue mentioned, 'cause that one is still beyond me. Looking forward to your posts also. Is this a great place or what ? - Joe
