I was not impressed with our Piel de Sapo (as far as storage melons go) but maybe they had too much water. I still have two on the counter that I picked around the beginning of July.
As far as watermelons go...I'd like to grow a smaller really sweet melon, something other than Crimson Sweet. One of the earlier names of my county was Watermelon, so they do well here at least comercially.....but I would like to try something different come Springtime....any suggestions?

Orangeglo is a good watermelon: delicious, sweet and a great colour. I can't comment about size because no watermelon grows big here. Too cool.

I had one Saldana, a big gorgeous melon that by all signs was perfectly ripe. When I cut it open, it wasn't even close to being ripe. The seeds were not ready either. Total bummer.
