Steev, new trick for carrots....start them when you plant your garlic. Let the rains bring them up. They just like that moist seed bed, and they are harder than heck to get to grow if they don't have one.

Yes, I know. However, I actually saw some sprouts from my second seeding, as well as the first (one sprout). It may rain Tuesday; it might not. I am Stoic by nature. Gophers happen.

Yes, I'm really really praying for rain.
Actually, I think I'll go out and put the lawn cushions on the outdoor furniture...and wash the car tomorrow. I rolled out the scooter and Vespa'ed to the farmer's market on Sunday.
Come one what more do I have to do to get rain?

I haven't finished the carrot trial, but I did pot up the remaining carrots that had not gone to seed. They're working their skirts now. Attachments:

Well here's something we didn't expect. Here's those same trial beds, all that green fuzzy stuff between the broc/cauliflower.... carrots! Carrots as weeds...now there's a new one on me! Attachments:

Booking a truck to come and pour cement foundations has always done it for me.... Carrots as weeds. Now there's a concept. Something to aspire to.

Would that all my crops came up as volunteers, and I could be like that lovely woman in "The flower gardener", in my stylish hat and apron, snipping a lettuce here and gathering a flower there. Tomorrow I will post the really dreadful bed. Weedis Uncontrollis. Weedis Revolutus! I'm in the weeds!

I note that the volunteer tomatoes are starting to appear; now if only all the other veggies will also volunteer and the weeds will all croak...

All I ask is the best, and there is so little of that.
