Wow Jo, what a find! Are you seriously making your own PV panels? How? I was reading along and thought you were going to put them into a greenhouse and I thought "how resourceful" then I continued and am amazed by the fact you are making pv panels! John

Doesn't taste the same, though, and few people around here have vinegar trees. In the Bay Area, lemons are not too unlike zucchini, availability-wise. Since I love lemon "everything", an abundance of lemons would be a great problem to have. The recipe says use the same amount of lemon juice as vinegar, approximately 1/2 cup to a gallon of milk. But my experience with store bought lemon juice was that I needed about 3/4 cup of lemon juice to have the cheese curds seperate properly. David

OH yea John, DEAD serious. I have a box some something like 400 1.5w cells w/tabs all ready to be soldered into an array. I just need the clear covering material. There is a debate about glass vs. plexiglass. But plexiglass is sufficiently costly that it can only be had as scrap (haven't found it yet) or with the savings from the first, glass covered panel. Really haven't even been able to nail down scrap glass of sufficient size either.
Don't be to amazed, when I think "survival" in terms of TEOTWAWKI, I always think of being comfortable. The only thing I'm UNwilling to completely give up is toilet paper. I haven't quite come to terms with that. ;o)

In the vein of "making do with what you have", I'd suggest the Self-cleaning Re-usable TP Substitute: a cat; preferably a very docile one.

More seriously, Jacob's Staff, a mullein, would be my fallback TP supply, since it grows wild around my farm. The leaves have been used as bandages and diapers, and it has no claws.

I've only got one mullein. That's not a whole lot of cowboy toilet paper.
You guys are pretty funny. I was standing in the garden watering and I said to myself, what would I miss most about this world, and the thought toilet paper came to me. If the world goes, I guess I'm going to have to rob the convenience store.
Grandma and Grandpa used to have a Sears catalog in the outhouse. I guess that's before ink was made with "ethylmethylbadstuff".
You know what I loved about the outhouse? No one ever stayed in there primping. They had 6 kids, and there never was any waiting to get in. Even when all us grand kids were there.
I guess I aught to start saving all those "soy catalogs" Or, I can start with the 10 years worth of farm records and receipts that I've had to save.....check anyone?

Grandma and Grandpa used to have a Sears catalog in the outhouse. Did they call it by its nickname "Rears and Sorebutts"?

Holly, you shall have mullein seed in season; those suckers make seed like tobacco, and it's a big plant, leaf-wise, very tough. Probably do fine in the sunflower border.
Remember, Jo, procrastinators are the leaders of tomorrow!
