There was an old hickory tree outside out dining room window. It was half dead and probably never been pruned. We tried pruning it last year when we moved in, but nothing, I mean nothing, could enhance it's appearance. We never even saw a nut, the squirrels ate them all. So Paintman attached a clothesline pulley to the main trunk and then yesterday trimmed off the rest of the dead branches. I'm looking for suggestions of vining flowers that would dress it up. Morning Glories would be one I know, but our back fence is already covered in them. I was thinking a Black Eyed Susan vine?? Any other ideas? Edible ornamentals would be best for my tiny yard

How about Actinidia kolomikta, the variegated hardy kiwi? Just make sure you get both genders if you want fruit.

(Edit: corrected species. A. arguta is less hardy and ornamental, and more invasive.)

How about runner beans? Not permanent, but an ever changing display. Grapes are nice.
My neighbors cut down a dead tree and left it table height. Her hubby made a table top to put on top of it....a round thing that holds at least 5 people and an umbrella in the middle.

This one is in the corner of the yard, kinda awkward. But it makes a dandy clothesline pole I was thinking about Moonflower next year. Apparently, the original owners grew Moonflower out front every year. Next door says she misses their lovely scent. I have Painted Lady Runners growing out front where the Moonflowers used to go Grapes might be a good choice Holly, TY. Drahkk, We don't eat much kiwi. I bought two bags of them recently. Ate part of one bag, the rest went in the compost. If we did like it more, that would be a good suggestion, TY
