It's already starting, it seems. In a FB group this fall a couple of different people have spoken of having their gardens cleaned out by two legged thieves. Others told of having some but not all taken , the corn or tomatoes disappearing but not the beans or other veggies. Some said the whole plants were gone. Nobody said anything about winter squash being stolen, not sure if the people were growing any and it was ignored or what.
Nobody said anything about potatoes either, perhaps they're thought to take too long to harvest by a thief.
Perhaps two gardens is a possibility, one clearly a traditional garden and the other a tangled mix of ornamentals, edible weeds and veggies, people looking would perhaps assume the trap garden was the only one.

Untidiness helps a lot, grin. Hide the spuds in plain sight, blue spuds with pale blue flowers lining the walk, with red petunias along the edge. Worked here.
Lots of tree fruits and nuts, especially walnuts, folks here don't know how to get them out of the husks to crack them.
Raspberries take quite a while to pick, and are right outside a window.
Squash climb the compost heap here, sometimes go up the brush pile too...and the grapes, they are trained up a wild apple.
Rhubarb and asparagus, hidden in the middle of the blackberries... Some of my neighbours are like mice, so I have to hide some stuff.
