Ohiorganic-I live in southern Indiana, about 3 hours from Cincinnati. We have 3 almost grown cats right now that we need to find homes for. A stray cat had these kittens in our garage, then when it was time to wean them she became very violent toward them. So, they are now in our house. One is friendly, the other two are still afraid, though they will rub on your legs. They won't let you pet them. They are litter trained. They would be good barn cats. I don't know how far you are from the IN border, but I would be willing to drive a couple hours to find them homes. Let me know if you might be interested. Karen

Hey, Moonlilyhead, I used to work at a vets when I was a teenager. That's what made me realize I didn't really want to be one. It was a fantastic experience though, and I did the same thing. One of the worst cases, I remember, was the guy that brought in his ex-girlfriend's cat to be put down, purely out of spite. I begged the vet to let me take him (cat), and the vet went out of his way to convince the ex-boyfriend to let me take him (cat) home. The guy didn't really give a crap what happened to the cat, as long as his ex-girlfriend never saw cat again. Vet really had his hands tied, and he hated to put down a young healthy cat, so I had to promise that cat was not going to resurface anywhere noticeable. Man, I hated that guy's guts, and loved my boss even more for being such a cool guy! The worst part of my job was always after hours, when I had to help euthanize the animals that were there for the procedure. A lot of owners just couldn't bear to be part of that, but I always promised them that I would hold their pet, and comfort them best as I could. I tried really hard not to cry, but that's hard.
Thanks for bringing that back. Probably one of the best jobs I ever had, and one of the best bosses too!

Ohio, I am sorry to hear about your kitties. There is one cat I promised I would take if the owners cannot keep it. He was born blind. And not just blind, he has no eyes-just empty sockets. I could never let him go to someone he doesnt know. He's a really shy cat and doesn't like alot of people. Naturally he crawls in my lap and naps on my jacket. Found him a few times in my purse.
I don't know how it is in other places. But in my cnty, there is no cheap spay/neuter programs, only rabies clinics. So there are an overabundance of cats in some areas. The shelter is a no-kill which is excellent, and they have a very good adoption rate.

You're welcomce sammy. It was one of my favorite jobs, too. But seeing hurt pets (especialy cats) was just too much. I did learn so much, though. I learned how to suture, give vaccs, treat for parvo, all sorts of stuff. My boss was a really great guy as well. He let me neuter a cat by myself, which I remind my BF of when he's being a bit of a butthead. I just have no discipline when it comes to hauling an animal home when it needs one. Cats and chocolate will be my downfall!
