Hey, I just discovered something about Sungolds that may be useful to a few of you.
I hate the way they split AFTER you picked them.
So last week I picked them as tresses, like you would grapes. I cut off the 2 green ones on the end. Guess what? NO splitting.
So I also tried cutting them individually above the pedicel. Guess what? No splitting.
About 25% that were picked, at the pedicel, split.
I've had an epiphany! I will be cutting Sungolds from now on!

Interesting. I wonder if this works with other post pick splitters. Worth trying!

Second tomato picked this year was Stupice but 4 out of 6 had holes. I think those are from grasshoppers.

Picked our first tomato yesteday - an Isis Candy. Also saw some colour on some of the larger tomatoes for the first time. I don't know if that's our last tomato of year too yet... we had hail last night and I have yet to work up the gumption to go and look.

Oops I meant Paul Robeson not Black from Tula. Finally got some fruit yesterday. Sungold Stupice Pink cherry Paul Robeson McClintock Azoychka I think that was it so far.
Northern Lights is the only variety showing fungal problems. Pathetic.

Black From Tula is NOT a cherry type. It is a medium slicer, 8 to 12 ounces.

Looks like I replaced a few and labeled them wrong , now that they are ripening I can see it. Picked Caspian Pink, Northern Lights, Early Glee and lots of the former varieties. Yet to pick: Eva, malachite box, big rainbow, persimmon, aunt Ginny, JD, Amish paste, jersey giant. Azoychka is a real stand out so far.

Picked?
Ha, mine are probably two, maybe three, times larger than when planted.
They are healthy though.
I never get early as mine simply get planted with out special speed modes as having tried them in the past they are more a pain in the buttock than the results are worth.
Odd year though, all my broccoli except one planted bolted immediately and my spinach is bolting before it is six inches high.
