Yeah, it's not that I don't want a nice TV, but I really only watch like HGTV, CNN, Cops, etc... So that seems like a lotta cash for that....
Plus I'd be trading a TV for a helluva lotta work cuz I'll still have to replace the deck with something somehow. And I'll have to do it myself.

Concrete is just a nice solution. It's work setting up the forms and pouring, but if it's done right it will last for such a long time.

I agree. And it's no maintenance, unlike a wood deck which is a huge pain in the ass IMHO. And I don't really wanna spend time pulling weeds out of a brick or flagstone patio.

My husband is a concrete guy. I talked him into concrete floors in parts of the house when we built. We used acid staining from Kemiko. I really like the results. It is amazing what you can do decoratively with concrete. Just remember not to use salt on concrete in the winter time. You wouldn't believe how much my husband bitches about people ruining it with salt. Even when we make ice cream, we have to keep the freezer so many feet away from the sidewalk. As for the flat screen tvs, I don't get the appeal. Seems to me that unless you are sitting dead center in front of one, everything seems distorted. They give me a headache.

Glenn Beck said the other day, I'll summarize: Our gov't. is going to have to borrow this money they are "giving" to us from China. It is supposed to "stimulate" our economy. But the fact that most of what we buy comes from China, that money will be going back to China. So how is it going to stimulate our economy?

I feel for you CB, concrete is not generally a do it yourself project for most people. Not to brag on my husband, but around here, his crew is the best. The people who hire the guys with the lowest bid almost always call my husband when the job goes bad. It really is better to pay for quality the first time around, but Americans don't seem to get that. Walmart mentality has partly got us in this mess, hence the economic stimulus package nonsense. We still don't learn. Spend our way out of debt? Guess that is the new math they teach the kids. Never could help my daughters with their homework.

Yeah, I agree. My dad, my 3 brothers and I poured tons of concrete back in the 60's/70's and built an enormous driveway/parking area at our house. Man, that was a ton of work. I've done a little since then here and there, but I don't relish the thought of pouring my own patio.
I agree that stamped, colored concrete is beautiful tho.

If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China. If we spend it on gasoline, it will all go to the Arabs or Hugo Chavez, and neither will help the American economy.
The way I see it, we need to keep that money here in America, so the only way to keep that money here at home is to buy beer or spend it on prostitution. These are the only businesses still in the U.S. ;D ;D ;D

Do you need a new garage door because of the last time you bought vodka and gin?
