Gotta talk about my market tonight. I struggled to pick, pack and set up in time as usual. And when setting up there was a million little kids coloring the parking lot around us and I am not a kid person. Very stressful. Then I was uber busy when the bell rang and sold very well tonight. It was kind of amazing. There was a reporter talking with us doing an article in the local paper which was nice. But when I packed up I had a lot of thinking and organizing to do so I was last to leave. As I loaded my tables one hit my back windshield. A few minutes later I was hearing this weird noise and OMG my back windhsield was shattering! The whole thing was ready to go. A friend from market returned to pick something up she left just then and helped me move the produce out of the way so just coolers and totes were up by the windshield. I called my hub and he was of no help since he was sleepy and kind of an a sshole. The gal tried to talk me into pushing it all out but I didn't want to and decided to just drive slow and try to make it home. I have a CSA that picks up at my home after market so I called and left a message on her cell and stopped to get gas. Lost my keys somewhere in the mess in the cab for several minutes then headed home. The windshield blew out as soon as I hit 40 but it blew in of course and glass is all over behind the seats. I got home and pushed it the rest of the way out and sweeped up the glass. Waited and waited for the CSA to come as I unloaded but whatever, she was late. Got on the puter and saw she sent an email asking why her share wasn't there! I said I had an accident and had left a message for her. I hate when people don't check their phones. I told her to call if I am not there by the time she gets there. She didn't knock on the door or anything. What a dummy. So I feel like I had a great market and made way more than usual and then was punished for it.

Some days just don't go right, do they? does insurance cover the windshield? and damage to your CSA next time you see her? T

Bummer about the window. There goes the profit margin.
Markets can be funny, our weekday markets are in a city park which is nice but it is sometimes a hangout for folks with too much time on their hands. Last year there was this guy who was very drunk/stoned making a mild nuisance of himself. Then the city police decided to show up and deal with him. 15 cops, 5 cop cars, two fire trucks and an ambulance. They came within a hair of tazing him, but fortunately he went away quietly. Still took an hour for all the roads to clear of emergency vehicles. Still made the same amount as normal despite the streets being completely blocked for over an hour. Go figure.

Well luckily windshield is covered and no deductible! Easy peasy. Getting fixed this afternoon. If they vac the glass up I will come out ahead. LOL. CSA is picking up today sometime.

The last two markets for some reason have been record breakers for me. That means over $200 at this market. Last night the local paper printed an article on our market. A reporter talked with us last week. He wrote a ridiculous article IMO but it is good press. monticellotimes.com/2012/08/16/a-bountiful-harvest/Funny thing he wrote about and photoed that customer. Her bunch were really annoying. One wanted dried Thai basil. I am the only person who brings herbs to market and I even have Thai basil. I said I had dried at home but not at market -because I dry the herbs that do not sell and most do not. She didn't want fresh but I said she could just hang it upside down and dry it and she refused and was really snotty. I was like "ok go try to find it somewhere and tell me how that goes." And that is what the reporter wrote about. Very odd. Oh yes and they were fat old ladies to be sure. ;D

Minnie, I think the same thing. One of my customers planted zukes and tomatoes and is now complaining that when they get my box, they have too much!

Another record in sales tonight. I expected a crappy market because of the state fair, holiday weekend, school starting and heat but when I finished the night I had $15 more than the previous highest total. It is strange. I see people buying from me and skipping the vendor next to me. I have been putting one overabundant crop on sale each week. I did summer squash for $2 instead of $3 one week then last week tomatoes $2.50 instead of $3 and tonight sweet peppers $2.50 or 2/$4 instead of $3. It helps get through the excess and makes customers happy.

It rained some last night and there were few customers. I had wonderful tomatoes and tons of them and was the featured vendor of the week. That is a curse we all say and so it rained and no one came. I made $110 less than last week! I did get free bread and pretzel from other vendors due to the slow night though.

I have been sick since last week's market pretty much and the Friday one that Michele Bachmann was at. I skipped today since I could hardly get out of bed. There is one more next week then indoors once a month. According to the Junior High popular girls at idig I give horrible customer service anyway and should never vent about a couple bad customers online or in person or in prayers. But I always bring dried Thai basil with me for the fat and old ladies so they don't have to eat black licorice.
