There is an Italian onion which is purported to be as sweet as an apple. I'll try to find the name, with the high sugar content it doesn't keep long, but the taste is quite amazing by all reports.

Has anyone grown an onion that's sweet as an apple from seed?

Oso Sweet onions seem to have a pyruvic acid level that measures below 5% and recorded sugar levels of up to 15%...i'd love to grow such an onion if i could get my hands on some seeds

I think Walla Walla has to be the best fresh eating onion.

I have grown many types, Walla Walla hands down. Vidallia is a Yellow Granex that is grown in Vadallia, also the Hawaiian onion everyone is hyping up is also nothing more than Yellow Granex grown in Hawaii

Dutch Valley Growers have a sweet one which is complicated, that's Super Sweet. The sets have to be produced in the North while the bulbs must be grown in the South. They are capable of 4" or bigger bulbs in the South but have a hard time making it to 2" in the North. They are the sweetest that I've ever grown. www.dutchvalleygrowers.com/prepack_bulbsd.htmlMartin
