i live in baltimore, maryland. i grew a sweet corn in a small plot. i dropped 1 seed every six inches. the next row was six inches from the first row, making it a double row. space btween the double rows was one foot and a half. then started another double row. used manure and 10-10-10 plus blood meal. stalks were between six and seven foot. all growing supplies came from lowes because of price. money is tight.

You are wise to try to be frugal; money is tight for most of us.
Welcome, and greetings from Seattle.

Are you growing just the one crop, or are there other things you (will) grow?

If you need seed, this is the best place to be!!!! I have NEVER met a more helpful group of people in real life or on the computer! Let us know what you need for spring planting!

the corn turned out great. mostly two ears per stalk. the corn was a hybrid sweet corn named miracle. also grew a couple of lopes that i grew in tubs. had about 11 of them. the lope sedds were called super star. i will have to find some one to buy some sweet corn from so i can replant the saved seeds each year. all in all, it was a very good year. in the city, we have to grow in small places. so i think, if you want to grow corn, you have to grow yielding corn. plus the cost of seeds is going up. ijust got lucky this year due to labor, and reading this forum and books.

I'd offer my Hawaiian Supersweet #9, but I think it might not do well there? Look it up and decide if you'd like some and if you would send me a pm. John
