Just for interest, plant some wild grape.
The old Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies were shot out in the Central Valley, near Manteca, in Caswell State Park, which is several miles of more-or-less undisturbed Valley river habitat, nmt 1/2 mile wide at any point. Outside the park, now, it's totally fieldcrops or suburbs. Back then, Johnny could swing on the wild grapevines hanging from the Valley oaks and dive into the river (the alligators were filmed somewhere else, but there are trees where all the vultures in the county roost).
When I was young, and these "Tarzan" movies were still occasionally on TV, we would go there in the Summer to innertube the river, scrambling out to steal watermelons and eat them, floating past the vulture trees.

That was a near idea for a floating platform, btw. I think Willow is one of those amazing plants and have often wanted to buy a armload of those twigs to make furniture with and establish them in on our creek edge. I've thought of putting them in a tree pot, because I'm hearing of people planting them very close. This is supposed to help them grow straighter stems, without much branching.
