Now that we are moving well into autumn i dug the 6X1 m bed for selecting for next summers seed crop, ended up with 99 desirable shaped carrots which were replanted into another bed in which i didn't remove any of the tops, the weather has been cool and humid since so they haven't gone through any shock, also did some tasting of each carrot until i got to about 30 and gave up,there was no noticeable difference.

Great looking carrots! (and great looking soil for them) Funny how many have a bend just like your shovel handle . . .

Yes my choice of native mānuka tree was not the straightest. When choosing a tree i look for ones that are dead standing, cut a green one and they tend to spit. Problem with store bought handles for me is that i think they're too short and being hickory its not as good mānuka, when hickory breaks its sudden, mānuka takes ages to finally let go so you have plenty of time to go for a wonder and cut another.
What i find odd is i not only grew Kuroda but also St Valery a Danver type and Kuroda a Imperator, both are suppose to be long rooted carrots but St Valery ended up misshapen and very short and stumpy while Kuroda did the opposite and grew extremely long, yet they were side by side in the same bed, got me buggered.
