It's more anxiety disorder than depression. Runs in the family, unfortunately; my sister's on Xanax for the same problem. I can think of a good many things that probably contributed, but the main thing that triggered it in me was a recent management change at my day job. I used to enjoy working there; now I dread every day. Told my doc that if I need prescription drugs to handle my day to day job, it's time for a neow job, but I need to be able to calm down and FUNCTION until I find one. Although now that I'm on them, I can't help thinking that if I'd been taking this stuff years ago I might not have quit teaching... MB I have found working on/in a garden to be far more effective than antidepressants. Gardening may be challenging & aggravating, but it's also soothing & rewarding. At any rate, that is the way I treat my rare bouts of depression. =/

Drahkk,
Been there, I haven't tried the pill yet. Some days soooo many things go wrong that it's hard not to feel anxious or depressed.
So here's Holly's list of coping techniques.
1. Try to stay in today, not yesterday and not tomorrow. 2. This is a good time not to hang with folks who are negative. 3. Eat well. 4. Exercise...even if it's jumping to conclusions and running off at the mouth. (In other words, wear your self out), so that you can 5. Get 8 hours of sleep.
Changing jobs or even thinking about changing jobs is stressful. So, cut yourself some slack.
Know that there's lots of folks here who are rooting for you, even if some of us are a few letters short of a full alphabet

Sorry I've been so quiet for a while, folks. I promise I'll get a proper trade list together soon, hopefully this weekend.
Also, any of you who know my real name and are on Facebook can now find me there. If you're interested in a seed train / round robin trade let me know there and I'll hook you up. Even if not, look me up and I'll add you to some trading groups.

Well, I finally got off my tail the past few days, and it sure feels good to get my hands back in the dirt. Spent yesterday cleaning, clearing, trimming and burning. Still got more of that to do, but the main garden is clear. Spent today tilling and planting. My poor tomatoes and peppers were so rootbound in their pots I felt sorry for them. Got all of them planted, plus watermelon, summer squash, and corn seeded. Weather permitting, I'll do cucumbers, muskmelons, garlic and herbs tomorrow, plus start the Miracle Max process on what's left of Mr. Prince's pole butterpeas (fingers crossed!).

I'll be on pins and needles until I actually get some to germinate, but if they do and I get enough fresh seed, I'll certainly share the love.
Ox only got about 3% germination on the old corn I sent him. That's no good for corn, but it makes me cautiously optimistic for these. I only need one live seed to survive long enough to produce...

Picked the first few handfuls of blueberries today. These will probably get munched for dessert tonight, but as you can see, there are plenty more to come: Stratcat's Purple Fire are producing like nobody's business: Pickle making time coming soon: All the cold snaps this winter busted pretty much every piece of regular PVC in my sprinkler system, so for the time being, I'm back to using an impact sprinkler mounted on top of one of my conduit trellis frames: Those same cold snaps have my apple and pear LOADED. (No pics yet. Will post later.) Seriously considering getting some kind of netting and covering the branches I can reach so we get at least part of the harvest this year. Usually the birds and squirrels get them all... MB

After one cold Winter (back when Winter was cold), I was checking the irrigation and got no water at all on one circuit; walked back along where the pipe ran listening and looking for a break; nothing; so I started clearing the mulch off the pipe until I found the problem: an entire 20' length of PVC was split end-to-end! Since then, I've mostly re-configured things to make PVC buried or mulched ~1' deep, or totally drainable, if exposed. Poly-tube has been no such problem, being flexible.

Hello all! Sorry I've been silent for so long. Between career changes, health issues, a vacation, and other things, my garden is so overrun with weeds and grass I'm ashamed of it. Once I dig up some garlic and herbs and pull some dry beans for seed, I have the feeling everything but the peppers and sweet potatoes is going to get purged by fire... Anyway, one of my Facebook acquaintances is trying to identify some beans he received in the mail with no identification. If these look familiar to anyone, please let me know:
