It's funny. I have some for sale in my seed shop along with tubers. People are all over the relatively common tubers - they sell almost as soon as I put them in stock. No interest in the seeds. It may be that I have given them away to anyone serious about growing them, which is fine with me, but I really expected the opposite.

You'll find the same with potatoes too Bill, most people believe that potatoes grow from tubers only, not from seeds

Today I noticed something protruding from the soil under the largest of this year's oca seedlings and being the impatient type, pulled it out. First new North American oca from seed? I guess the picture came out a bit dark - the skin is a lighter yellow than it appears. The parents were Sunset and Hopin: Looks like it favors Sunset.

I did three sowings back in August and got about just under 50% germination in three weeks and 60% germination over eight weeks. In each case, I soaked the seeds. In two lots, I tried germination enhancers that didn't seem to do anything better than soaking in plain water. A further small test sowing without soaking resulted in less than 20% germination. You can see the exact procedure that I used here: wettingthebeds.cultivariable.com/2013/09/oca-growing-from-seed.htmlSteve is the only other person who has reported success so far, although I suspect very few people in the northern hemisphere have tried yet.

It's certainly a wispy sprout; don't know whether it's a good one, but it's the best I've ever had.

OK, I started soak on 200 seeds today. 24 hours in water and then I will transfer to wet paper towels on the heat pad. I hope it works as well as last time, or this will be a really disappointing cap to the season.
