Hi everybody! Thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Nik, I'm 16. I'm currently living in a rented house in Central Ohio, Mohican Area. I have poured through many, many books on gardening, raising poultry, foraging, etc. but have only had a few years to put my skills to the test, so I wouldn't really be considered a "seasoned" gardener. Other than gardening and foraging, I like hiking through the wilderness, kayaking and canoeing, and... not much else. I listen to country music and my favorite country star would be either Chris Ledoux or Alan Jackson. As far as gardening goes I'm mostly into vegetables and any odd and unusual ornamentals. I'm originally from the suburbs but we moved to the country to start our own little family farm to become more self- sustainable.

Blackox: Welcome to the forum. What a great place to farm! I used to buy sweet corn for freezing from an Amish man somewhere around that area. He used to cut the tips from his cobs to avoid selling corn ear-worms. It was a valuable lesson. Today I cut the tips from my sweet corn to avoid selling worms.

Welcome Nik. Good place you found here. Lots of folks always happy to help. Saw your mum's and sister's blogs. Some interesting reading.

Joseph, it sure is a great place to farm! Nearly everything that I've tried here has done great so far. My okra is still going after the mid 30-ish degree nights that we've been having lately. I'll have to keep the corn trick in mind in case I ever start growing corn. From your little note down under your profile it sounds like your somewhere out west. Thanks, Raymondo! Glad you enjoyed them!
