Certainly is a stunning harvest to look at. I doubt I could grow it, given my temps range is more like 18F to 110F, and 20" of rain, in a good year.

Anyone would think that the Incas move to the Pacific North West after the Spanish chased them out of South America! Lovely looking tubers Bill. Congratulations on the harvest.

Beautiful! So ulluco doesn't like heat? How big are the tubers? This may be something to add to my ever expanding list of want-to-trys.

Beautiful! So ulluco doesn't like heat? How big are the tubers? This may be something to add to my ever expanding list of want-to-trys. Ulluco has a reputation for being very difficult to grow in most climates. It wants plenty of moisture and cool temperatures. Like oca, it doesn't form tubers until after the fall equinox, but unlike oca, it isn't in any hurry, so it needs to be kept frost-free as long as possible. I would have much rather kept mine in the ground another month, but we have some cold weather on the way, so it was time to bring it in. For us, the ulluco tuber bell curve is centered about 1 inch diameter - so half smaller and half larger, but most clustered between 1/2 inch and 1 1/2 inch. Some get quite a bit larger. Here is a picture that shows some scale:

It doesn't sound possible in my area, it gets pretty hot during the summer and my climate is NOT frost - free. Great harvest though! Very picture - pretty too!
I have not tried oca, but have grown red maca root two years ago. I had a pretty good experience with it, but it did not like the heat at all!

Ulluco is more difficult than oca. I will tolerate less heat than oca.
