The Danish seed savers have successfully convinced their government to effectively 'break' their national seed legislation by reinterpreting the directives on which it is based. They have also introduced the concept of 'Trial Planting', which allow unregistered seed to be supplied to farmers. It's a little complicated, but this effectively means they have undermined all the important restrictions in EU seed law. Because Denmark is part of the EU, in theory, it's now possible to register a Danish business, and sell seeds throughout the EU under the new Danish rules. The Danish seed savers did this in consultation with the seed industry there. Because there appears to be no major objections coming from the seed industry, it should be possible to do this same reinterpretation across the EU, and I'm expecting this will happen eventually. This is very big news concerning the EU seed law! I published some more details on my blog: bifurcatedcarrots.eu/2016/02/seed-law-update-2016/

Yes it's true, and it came with an apoligy from the ministry, for a too strict interpretation.

Yes great news alright, hopefully this sets a prescient for countries like New Zealand who have yet to deal with the backlash of the yet to be fulled ratified TTPA agreement. A Bill has already being past through the NZ Parliament (but yet to be implemented) where seed growers will have to be registered. At this stage its about seeing how it all pans out, but being the founder of the seed growing collective 'Sentinels Group Seeds' i'll be extremely fucked off if any attempted restrictions are placed on our semi-commercial hobby.
