I only shelled a few just to see, I only got a few dozen pods but it's a start. I put a pound or so of seed in the ground to get what I did, good thing they where bulk food from the market and not from some seed company.

Yesterday I returned the last of the watermelons back to the garden, there was 2 dozen small ones left, most of them where half compost already.
Filled a 30-ish gallon pot 4/5 full of wood chips, applied 4 gallons of human sourced liquid fertilizer so the wood should have the nitrogen needed for decomp. Topped the pot off with compost and planted a hundred or so "white" (they looked yellow and orange to me) plum pits. Found a colony of feral plums this spring, don't know if it was genetics or location but they where loaded with fruit even though most stone fruit in the valley was lost to frosts. Picked a bunch, half where eaten fresh the other half got dried. Hopefully next year I'll have a good crop of plum seedlings to pick from. Did the same thing with apricots last year and got plenty of saplings, I should try it with apples and pears.
Today I finished cleaning up the "deciduous bounty" and applied it to the garden.

Doing roast chickpeas for a family gathering, didn't have enough home grown in the pantry for the recipe so I had to buy some, found an off type in one of the bags(spherical with a smooth seed coat). ! score ! lol

Boy the first few days of gardening are always so ... uh, invigorating. I think I'm invigorated out for a while, (suck it up pansy) a lot more to do tomorrow.

Indeed so; it goes from dirge to klezmer overnight. Wish I could transition so fast.

Finished planting the early stuff today so I get a break till mid-late April.
Also started my first go at growing edible mushroom, put freshly chipped branches in a large container, mixed in a couple of minced shrooms from the store and wet it down with some hydrogen peroxide water. I hope maple and aspen wood where ok to use and that I remembered correctly that mushroom don't mind hydrogen peroxide.

Well I've graduated from horticulture to agriculture. According to google earth My garden area is somewhere around .11 of an acre the field I'm going to start using is about half an acre, so a bit of a step up. The field is about a 4th of a mile away so within easy walking or biking distance. It hasn't been used for a few years so a bit of work to get it ready for planting, so warm season crops this year. Get to see if I'm really cutout for farming.

You can never have enough seeds. Ask Joseph, he's seen some of my stash. I think I've got adequate (i've got enough watermelon seed to plant the whole thing) and if I run out of veggies I'll just plant more flowers.
