Not a radish fan myself, but my wife loves her Cherry Belles and Sparkler White Tips. So far she hasn't liked any others we've grown. But I've got the landrace bug, and want to breed and select. She likes the flavor, texture, size, and reliability.
She'll taste test anything I grow, but if it's not close, it'll get rogued out. I'd love to introduce more colors and shapes.
I'd also like to try using big daikons for breaking up soil and mining minerals up from below. It would be really cool to produce a 2 pound Cherry Belle or Sparkler, "till" with it, and bring a few in for the table. Kinda like killin' 2 birds with one stone.
Besides getting daikon seeds, any advice? Anyone know similar varieties?

I would purchase Joseph's Landrace Radish Grex and go from there. I also very much like the radish mix from "Grow Italian".
Radish Mix (112-39) Some of these are like a red daikon, long and hot.

Tim Peters sold seeds of "Radicals" , a range of Sakurajima crosses, with "the possibility of some colorful monster Daikons".
I've been growing them for a long time, but have never dug them up. I just eat the seedpods. I'll try some of my saved seeds this year, and see if they are big and colourful.
Last year I bought lots of different radish seeds in the Czech Republic. Some of the radishes were getting quite big, with a lot sticking up above the ground, when we had a cold snap in November. I should have covered them up - freezing did not suit them. That's when I noticed what Tim had written on another of his packets: Lowbelle Mix - "bred to overwinter. They keep their roots totally submerged in the soil and this trait helps to increase freeze resistance. Best sown September through October (in the Northwest) for harvest Feb through April." I haven't saved any seeds of these, so hope Tim's old seeds are still viable.
Oh, one more comment: the yellow radishes look pretty on the packets, but in real life they are buff coloured.

I have been way sad this spring that I haven't been able to find my radish seeds... And I'm still missing a packet of watermelon seeds. Still months away from planting watermelon, but I aughta get serious about finding the radish.

For us, for market, the only salad radish worth growing has been French Breakfast. I really like the High Mowing strain, it is leafier and has better and more uniform root shape.

Uniform? I'd need a size small, medium and large. The good news is that I got rave reviews. And this year's Kimchi was the best ever. That said, I do love FBR! Yes, butter, mint, radish and fresh bread...is there anything better? Watermelon is summer.
