Thanks, PG and Bill. Indeed, lots of planting material now. I think I'll be going with the 3', 12" spacing this year, but maybe I can find some more space where I can try for some of those pine-cone sized tubers that Cesar showed off. My goodness, can the varieties I have get that big?
The White looks a little disappointing, but if you refer back to the first picture you'll see I had much less of it to begin with. I didn't keep track of how many plants of each type made it or didn't make it - a loss to one or two of those would be a big percentage, but still they did a six or seven-fold increase. To my eye the Sunset was the winner for me (and had some very sunset-like coloring to boot.) Hopin seems like maybe it under-achieved a little. I suppose there's still time to get them onto a scale.
Still haven't tasted any of these!

You've certainly out-done my crop; well done! I will do what I can, playing catch-up.

They self-pollinate, so if you can keep it going long enough it will give you some seeds.

Jeremy, nice harvest for pot grown plants! And welcome to HG! What I find interesting is that I see four or five bicolored tubers in the white batch. Did anyone else notice this? It's the small ones on the left. I wonder if they will turn darker and show to be something else...

Great harvest Jeremy! And welcome to the forum. I live south of you in OH, your pictures don't make me doubt that I'll be able to get a good harvest myself.

Since these were separate in pots, I can be pretty confident that they all came from White, for what it's worth. I just checked on them and the blush is pretty much the same, although they're all starting to get a bit dry and shriveled up. I wonder, should I put them in plastic bags? The fridge, maybe? I guess it's too dry in my unheated room. blackox, you should definitely give it a shot. They made it through October here, last year. Steev, I hope your oca does better in 2015!

You can put them in dryish potting soil, just enough to cover them. That way they don't dry out and you can adjust the moisture by lightly spraying the soil. Just don't overdo it as they may begin to rot...

The smallest tubers often have irregular coloration. I don't think that is a color mutation, but it can't hurt to keep track of them.

Hello Jeremy! I'm growing in Ottawa and are yields look not dissimilar. Love to chat with more climate challenged growers so we can work out this thing!

Well, this is it. My first sign of life from my Andean crops for 2015! I have a Mashua sprouting. Woohoo! Also pleased to report that while breaking down my raised bed failures, I found a few different Oca that I had missed. I was very surprised they had not frozen to death. (I dug into the soil when it was hard frozen and it went down a long ways. Between 4-6 inches.)

This will probably go nowhere again, but since it was getting old and probably going bad, today I pulled out and planted what little ahipa seed I had left from the packet I got a few years ago. Hopefully by starting it indoors this early I can get it to either pod up before the fall (so as to get fresh seed) or make some sort of tubers this time (yes, I know that technically for this crop those two goals are almost mutually exclusive but one can hope.)

anyone know is it better to plant yacons before the last frost (with some protection like a cloche or straw) to get a head start on root growth or wait until after last frost?
