Congratulations to Carol Deppe on the upcoming publication of her new book, "The Tao of Vegetable Gardening". It is scheduled to be published on January 19th 2015. It is currently available for pre-ordering from her publisher. I'm starting this thread in case any of us want to write reviews about the book or to discuss the ideas presented therein. I'm particularly interested in reading the sections entitled "|'Lofthouse Landrace Moschata' Squash | Apologizing To A Squash | Butternut Squash Cookery |".

Wonderful news! However this presents an exquisite dilemma - Ms T wants to buy me a belated christmas present - Carol's new book, or Stephanie Alexander's new edition of the Cook's Companion...decisions, decisions

Okay, that goes onto the next book order! Sounds interesting, especially as we are going to have to come up with a better - well, no, not better; different - gardening/family care balance in the next few years.

Ordered through Amazon - Chelsea Green recommended I purchase through someone other than them, they thought their international posting rates might be a bit steep, even with the discount.
Carol, review will follow as soon as I get a copy. T

Nice review! Thanks for reminding me about this book. I think once I get all the tax papers wrestled into shape (for 4 people, ugh) I am going to treat myself to some books and this will be one of them.
By the way, your direct link didn't work, but I got it by clicking on your blog link in your sig.

"My early readings on gardening, springing from post-war can-do approaches, emphasised double digging, order, pest and weed control, stringlines and spacing tools, strict schedules and fertiliser regimes."
I am rolling around laughing. The first time Leo told me I had to plant using a string line (he was very orderly then), I asked him if the plants knew that they were required to go like soldiers down the line? What would he do if I planted some of them crooked? Would the be pulled out for disciplinary action? He was forever handing me spacing tools and tearing out his hair. (10 inches, 11 inches, 9 inches...I'm really quite bad). He has since thrown in the trowel and sort of like me, lets things go with the flow. Now I'm trying to imagine you with flowers in your hair!
Not everything is going to get done. Not unless Joseph gets bored of sorting seeds and turns up on my porch to help me farm, or Steev gets those clones together.
I am so happy to hear that someone else does not like Kale. I do not like Kale. Nope, no matter how much bacon you add to it. I give it all away. But last night we had Mizuna tacos! (Ground Beef, homegrown beans, Queso-from my neighbor, cilantro and mizuna from the garden). I don't think I can ever go back to lettuce.)
If it was up to me, I would never grow broccoli again. I think it's boring. There's so many things I'd rather eat than broccoli. (Artichokes! Bring on the Butter!) But I'll keep growing it and keep serving it because my family expects it.
I think Carol has an odd diet and I'm from North America. She's a "no wheat eater". Sorry, I don't have a problem with wheat, so there will be pasta and pizza, cake, pie, cookies, fresh bread and dumplings at my house.
Thanks for the review Templeton.
I have room for a hedgerow. It's coming along, but it is not my first priority. My first priority is always to grow what I like to eat. I only got 200 of the 500 onion plants started, but I also got carrots, beets, more parsnips and more radishes planted today, so it was a good day. Another day...not EVERYTHING got done.

Now I'm trying to imagine you with flowers in your hair! sorry, had a lovely pic from the hippy days, unfindable - but this from my later punk rock-climber period shows vegetable pickings were still thin... T
