Not ten minutes after finishing what had to be done this week, it rained; not much, but all good. Realized that I can't go to the farm tomorrow (although I can get loaded) because I'm going to a Hannukah potluck near Sacramento Saturday, so I'll drive to the farm Saturday night after returning to Walnut Creek; it's tiring, but I'll have Sunday to till and maybe plant Alliums. They predict rain, but I'd prefer that to planting time, all things considered. PITA is relative.

You're lucky, drought really starting to bite here now, noticing more and more trees dying, though there is forecast of storms to develop Sunday Tuesday & Wednesday, just one bloody storm please at least.

The forecast is for record highs next couple days into the 70s F. Little doubt about it since it is 66 right now an 8:15 AM. The warm temp isn't so odd on it's own but there is a very strange "feel" to it. Not raining but very wet and a warm breeze. Actually a little spooky in its oddness.

highs in the 70's with lows in the 50's for a few days, then going back to more 'normal' - should have highs in the 40's and lows in the mid-20's by friday.

Daffodils are up, not especially unusual anymore, they will be fine as long as it doesn't get too terrible cold before spring. Normally bloom anyway, they are just ugly if the leaves get badly frozen. More worrisome is the lilacs. Buds are way too green and swollen, not much chance they will make it, there might still be a few blooms lower down next spring. OR, maybe the freeze won't come at all and we will have January blooms. Several miniature roses still in almost full bloom. I'm sure it isn't good for them to go straight from blooming to frozen but has happened before and they survive. You can't trim and mulch until they actually freeze or they just start growing again. I figure it's better to let old growth freeze than new shoots.
Quite warm here.

Hope you're getting a decent summer, other than that. We've had two lots of hail in the last couple of weeks, thankfully didn't seem to damage the fruit or the vegetable plants noticeably.

Another 40c day today and 43 tomorrow, I am sick of summer already and we still have three months of it to go. My plants are looking so stressed but there is only so much you can do. I've covered as many of my vegetable beds as I can afford with shadecloth so I will just have to cope as best I can. I hate summer!!! You know it is pretty bad when things like tepary beans and ground cherries are fried. Got my water bills yesterday but they were only a little higher than I expected, phew.

No we missed all those storms that hit the coastal areas, dont know about down your way but there's a fair dump of snow on the mountains. From snow to temps in the high 30C within four days thanks to that hot airmass which is due to blow over from Australia
