2015 Trade List - Ferdzy

Okay, a smallish list this year, but I hope some unusual items. No beans; we have had bean anthracnose in the garden the last 2 years. Last year was much better than the year before; I do hope to be rid of it one of these years soon. I have a few interesting crossed beans I am following, so if this is of interest to you you could ask about them.

Ugh, sorry about formatting. 2nd column is quantity available. Also we have lots of tomatoes in small quantities - let me know if you are looking for something specific; you never know.

If you have bean anthracnose, you might want to consider starting with fresh seed since the fungus survives from year to year primarily as spores on the seed. Perhaps soaking in a bleach solution might kill the spores. Applying a fungicide during the growing cycle might break the cycle.  Something like Actinovate or maybe Serenade.  There's some research that comfrey has fungicidal properties. Perhaps foliar sprays and soil drenches would help.  We plan to use a foliar spray of fermented comfrey and nettles weekly in our orchard this summer to see how it impacts the good and bad bacteria and fungi.   Also our tomatoes, beans and strawberries.  Got a new sprayer for application - www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?p=53831&cat=2,51555

Thanks, Mike. We did soak seed last year in peroxide, and the outbreak was much smaller than the year before. I'm hoping by continuing to rotate planting spots and soak seeds before planting, that we can get rid of it. If it isn't next to gone this year we will probably replace seed, but there are a few crosses I am growing out that I would hate to lose, also I have been selecting seed enough to double the production of our dry beans and it would be back to the start with that too.

It came in on some seeds that I bought from a supposedly reputable company. One of the old names, now sold in Walmart racks, etc, for cheap. Won't do that again!

I'm not aware of any nettles around here, but we have comfrey growing in all the ditches. Maybe I shall try that.

That was from Hungary! It's also known as May King or sometimes May Queen.

I probably do have some seed from it, but the lettuce seed got pretty mixed up and badly labelled. If you want some more I could probably narrow it down to two or three possibilities.

We've been having problem with anthracnose the past couple of years too, coming in on 3 varieties from SSE and it spread to a few other varieties. What concentration of peroxide are you using for soaking?

I'd be interested in 15-20 of the Aydin Siyahi eggplant. Search says big plant with big fruit, just what I'm looking for. Also could use 25-30 of the Inegol leeks. Have "a few" tomato seeds available. Too lazy to list them all here so you'll have to check out the link provided.

Walk, I don't really remember. Four to one? Five to one? Six to one? (water to peroxide). I let them soak for about 20 minutes. I think this year I will let them soak for an hour.

This years seeds available are pretty much the same as last years. Same problem prevails with the beans - one of these years, I hope to get rid of the anthracnose. This was not the year.

In addition I have some crossed Isis Candy cherry tomatoes I've been growing out for a couple of years. They showed up as a cross when I grew out some Isis Candy from Holly, and I like the cross better than the original - it's a cherry tomato that tastes more like larger tomatoes.

I'd like to also point out the Jaune Flammée x Unknown Red tomato as well, which I have been growing out and is now on f5. I grew 24 at a local farm this summer - I now consider this a pretty stable variety.
