I had no idea they were prone to it. One of my survivors is blooming now, it's very purple and very pretty.
	Growing in a coastal zone 7a in the Northern Hemisphere. Hot humid summers and cold snowy winters. Plenty of rain. Sandy loam topsoil over clay subsoil, whatever the glacier left behind when it made Long Island.

My cardoons all died this year from the open winter with numerous freeze/thaw cycles, so I will have to replant from seed.
