"How many gallons in a cubic foot?" was a common "sucker bet", when I was at school; it really isn't intuitively obvious.

Looking at a 5 gallon bottle of water, it's difficult to imagine a cubic foot contains almost half as much again water than is in a full bottle. Even if it does have a handle area inset, it's taller than a foot to make up for it. Oh! I just figured it out maybe, your gallons are smaller than ours, I think. Even so, but that helps a bit.
