Oh, that's just silly, richardw; there he is, in living color; no corks in his avatar, for all the world to see.
Anyone knows that "Road Warrior" and "Pricilla, Queen of the Desert" are the actual representations of life in Oz, although "Soft Fruit" helps to round out the picture.

Australians, if they've heard of Quakers at all, and most haven't, think we wear broad-rimmed black hats Um, Ray? You don't wear a broad-brimmed black hat? I was going to comment myself, that now that I take a look at his avatar, that's a rather Quakerly looking hat. Flat brim; check. Low crown; check. Dark colour; check. The clues were there!

Well i didnt actually know his name. But it looks like someone posted a link to his name. Only someone who was familiar with who he was would have recognized him. I watched his Ted talk awhile back, but that doesent mean i know much about him. There were a lot of things i didnt like about his talk, but i dont rember exactly what. I think he came off to me as "smart but dumb". Whether thats because he seemed too much in monsanto's pocket or relying too heavily on genetic engineering technology i dont know.
I dont believe a corporation (or anyone for that matter should be allowed to take a public domain biological component or gene or species and apply a patent on it whether it is significantly modified or not. But i do believe corporations should have access to the seed as much as anyone else. I have no problem with monsanto having access to the seed itself. I have a problem with thier patents and thier business practices. But those are two very distinct things. And i think they should be treated as such.

Okay, okay, I do wear a broad-rimmed hat, but in my defense, it's brown, not black, and although I do eat Quaker Oats, I don't use thee and thou, well, hardly ever. And despite that typical stereo type of an Australian,i bet ya he wont have corks swinging off that hat either In wettish summers when the flies reach plague proportions I wish I did have corks dangling form my hat. It just wouldn't be a good look in Meeting!
