What I've found does really well with ANY vegetable is weeds. The weeds do well i know that

Had read pole beans and onion shouldn't be companion planted,yet this past summer i had the best crops from both, but ive never followed any of those guidelines anyway and have never noticed any difference. To me its like planting by the moon, the only people who know if it works or not are the people who dont follow those rules.

I do a lot of random interplanting. Af few have become standards in my garden. Potatoes and favabeans. Favabeans and oca. Perennial kale (Daubenton) and perennial fennel.
