Chickweed's not bad as a potherb; may not want to eat it much, but as a flavorant/nutrient in soup, very useful; steep it in the broth, then fish it out, if you find it too coarse. Many such things just need to be run through the blender a bit, saves wear on the teeth.

Something not usually eaten as greens, but thrown in for flavor or nutrition, like parsley or nettles.

Eclipse was only 70% here, but had a blast watching it with my family. Everyone was out in the street, staring at pinholes of light in cereal boxes and projecting slivers of sun through colanders, even sharing special viewing glasses around. Good weather for it; the light got very obviously dim, like a very cloudy day but still sharp shadows everywhere.
A week later, autumn has come early. Cold nights inland already have some of the trees changing. Not yet by the coast, but it's been cool and wet enough to stress the cucurbits. Gotta happen some years, but a late summer combined with an early autumn makes for a depressing year. Don't want the cold dark to come back too quickly, please.

After a pleasant cool spell (missed the 75% eclipse, due to overcast), temps rising again.

52 degrees right now with steady rain, high today was 63. Took a hurricane to do it but the dry spell is over for now.
The 2024 eclipse is gonna be 100% for 30 seconds about a half hour drive from here. Supposed to be 100% for four minutes at the lake where we like to fish and camp. It's about an hour and a half away. I'm thinking it might be fun to be in the middle of that lake in my kayak when it happens, regardless of weather.

We've been sitting around 105 - 110 degrees for more than a week now, with nighttime temps in the mid to high seventies most nights. That isn't too strange for this time of year. It's this -- --that worries me a little. Definitely uncharacteristic of our area and weather patterns. Yesterday was a bit strange too, as about midday it got very overcast and the winds picked up. It was still 108, but it gusted like crazy, strong enough to snap one of my White Nighting corn stalks, and those are pretty sturdy. We'll have to see what Sunday night and Monday bring. That nearly 20 degree temp drop and thunderstorm warning are a bit foreboding. Nothing like what some people in the nation are dealing with by a long shot, but still unsettling for my area.

Luckily, climate change is a hoax.

We hit 108F today; 114 is predicted for tomorrow! I've been putting frozen water bottles in the coop for our week-old baby chicks. They seems pretty resilient already though.
It was still 90 at 9pm tonight. It's been a while (10 years?) since we've had temps this high.
It's smoky too, from one of the many fires around the state. Hopefully, when the weather cools off next week, the wind will pick up too.

Yeah; I got an email from a client wanting to know whether I was coming today; let's see; coming to do your yard or not collapsing from the heat; boy, that's a toughie, NOT! These people aren't paying a premium for hazardous service; are they having a weekend party? Let 'em do their own damned yard-work! Geez; people who "work" sitting on their asses.

Going to the farm, but the hammock will get a lot of wear.

That's what its for, Steev. A hammock is a terrible thing to waste.

We had our all time record low / high. That is it has never not exceeded 61 on Sept 1 before. It was 52 this morning, don't know if that is record or not. I actually considered putting a little fire in the stove. I don't look forward to our turn on what you have now. Supposed to be back to high 80s by mid week. Got 4 inches of rain over about 24 hrs, ground soaked it all up good, hardly none ran off to the creeks.
