Poured down rain most of last night and today, clearing off now and wind picking up. 67 for the high, the windowsill sweet potatoes enjoyed an afternoon outside, got their leaves all washed up good, they seem happy.

It was 0 F (-18 C) this morning. It got up to 15 F (-9 C) during the day. Sunny, so that was nice.
I poured hot water around the door of the greenhouse so that I could pry it open. One of the doors has fallen off the rails, so it's basically immobile until spring when I'll feel like fixing it. In late afternoon, it was 55 F (13 C) inside, and I haven't even added the barrels of water that I intend for the spring. I skipped my run today. Didn't let the chickens out of their pen. The rabbits bop around outside, they don't seem to be bothered by the cold. It's a bitch keeping water available for the animals.

Winds off the alps are warm and dry so that makes for warm night time temps of around 20C -68F and daytime 27deg - 80F. So great growing conditions at the moment

Been raining off-and-on all week; flooding in the North Bay; then there were the temblors the past two nights.

Beautiful light dusting of snow this morning, then it warmed up enough for it to melt off. We're supposed to get some crazy precipitation and flash freezes over the weekend, including something called "murder sleet". I can't wait.

Murder sleet??, I love all the new weather terms we hear now days, that one is particularly amusing. I guess we are also supposed to get the "flash freeze" down near 0 F for a night or two. I got lots of stuff growing, turnips, mustard, lettuce, even my chard is holding on this year. But so far we haven't had more than a dozen nights even below freezing, wonder what will zero will do to it all.

It didn't get quite as cold as predicted, only about 10 F. May still get colder tonight but also after the rain stopped we got about 3" of fluffy snow. Yea! my winter plants might make it through.
My little garden pond just outside the kitchen window is deep enough and has a pump running so does not easily freeze, all kinds of birds out there this morning, getting a drink.

6F here this morning, and windy. We did not get nearly as much precipitation as predicted, no murder sleet so I still can't report on what that is. However, it was a full moon this weekend, and the downtown along the harbor flooded with icy salt water yet again. This is becoming a regular occurrence whenever a storm coincides with a full moon. But I wonder how long until it happens every full moon, not just when there's a storm. I'm betting only a decade or two. And then...how long until the downtown becomes a new section of saltmarsh?
Arugula, scallions, leeks still standing in my garden. And some blackberries still have green leaves. Those things are tough as nails. Everything else has gone to ground.

Our temp was -2 but I'm still hopeful the three inches of fluffy snow keeps things safe. I'm especially hopeful for some really great looking lettuce plants that volunteered last fall.

Four inches of rain OTF this week, looking to a sunny week in NorCal.

Sub zero at night, F, starts tomorrow for at least one week with several day never getting above zero. Fortunately we have a little snow on the ground up here and had a couple of inches of fluff last night. a hundred and fifty miles South of here they are getting the snow we need and should have.
