pretty cold here the past three nights (down into the mid teens F). we are due for some rain, snow, ice today but i have no idea how much or if it will stick. then warming up this week in the days enough to perhaps start thinking of being outside again. i tried some weeding last week but there wasn't anything up for me to get at so that was a short time out. with rains the ground is too soggy for any serious garden work anyways.

that is sad about the fruit trees taking the brunt of things there. it has been cold enough here that i'm not sure if fruit trees will be out early or not. still frosts and chances of snow in our forecast for a while yet. plenty of rain. more rain than we really need.
the comment about rototilling mud did get a laugh out of me. i've not done that here, but sometimes i do have to get out into a garden and work in rather muddy conditions and it's often that i have to scrape mud off my garden shoes. i normally take two pairs of shoes out with me anyways, one to wear in the gravel pathways and the other pair to wear in the gardens themselves.
a few warm enough days have happened where i've been able to get outside for a little garden work and to fix a few things that were damaged over the winter.

The problem in france is that our winters are many too sweet. Up 15°C 59°F at christmas and march is not normal. And frosts at -6°C 21°F are not sufficients. At a few placements the most frost night of the year is at the period of fruits trees are in flowers!Slow-down of gulf stream is a problem because temperatures are less stabiles.
I think cherry trees is save. Persimmon are frosted but they will grow again. The weather is now hot: temperatures between 3 and 21°C 38 and 70°F this week.

still cold here, some snow today and tonight and more chances of frost. i may be able to get some peas and onions planted later this week. we'll see what the forecast looks like. i don't think it will matter that much either way if i wait another week or two.
