Cali is now officially in drought again.
no surprise there based upon how little snowpack they have. i hope a few more good atmospheric rivers can come through before the really hot weather settles in again. i see they have some snows/rains predicted for Colorado this coming week so perhaps some of that may also be from something that comes through California. at least i sure hope so.

It's not too early to call a drought in Cali: our heavy-rainstorm season ends in early January and it was a bust this year; the Spring rains are typically lighter and there're only 3-6 weeks before rain expectation stops until late October. It's a sure bet that we're screwed, blued, and tattooed. The silver lining in this dry cloud is that I totaled my truck and haven't been able to go to the farm for three months, so I did no Spring planting of veggies to dry up. Cold comfort? Yeah, but I'm still waking up on the green side of the grass and tomorrow IS another day.

wow! i'm glad you came through it ok. what happened? we've gotten some good rains last night to finally catch up the garden soil moisture level. it was getting a bit dry down past the top layer. i was out digging yesterday and admiring the soil quality in the garden i'm trying to clear of grass/weeds so i have more bulk bean planting room.
originally i wanted the whole area for growing strawberries but since i can't put a fence up to exclude the deer i have to grow other things which the deer may not eat.

Tyro mistake. Rounding a curve at night, black steer in the road; instead of hitting it (the right choice), I reflexively tried to go around and wound up in a ravine. Oops.

that must not have been any fun at all. i'm glad you got out of it alive - i hope you didnt' get hurt too badly?
years ago i almost hit a cow too but i had nowhere to go to avoid it so i was lucky my brakes worked that i didn't hit it. there was a hill and then some railroad tracks and the downslope on the other side. as usual i came over the hill at a good rate and there were cars parked on both sides of the road which is very unusual for there so i was slowing down and then a cow came out from in between two cars and ran across the road. i stomped on the brakes even harder and just missed it. all those people were there chasing the cows that had gotten out.
my other story is from the time an elderly lady came up to an intersection, stopped and then pulled out right in front of me without even looking. i had the instant choice between broadsiding her at about 60mph or hitting the ditch. i chose the ditch. at one point i'm going through the ditch with my front wheels up on the edge and the back of the car in the ditch and my front was poiinted right at her as i was going around her. the front tires kept enough grip and i didn't roll it so i was able to get back up on the road like nothing had happened. i don't know that she even noticed what had happened or where i had come from. at that location there was a telephone pole too that i went right around. the next day i went back there to look at the tire tracks and to make sure i wasn't dreaming. i wish i'd had one of those car cameras for that but those didn't exist back then.
the quick reaction i can say came from many many hours of playing pinball. it has helped me in other situations.
cloudy and rainy here. no freezing in the forecast for the next week at least.

yes, it was scary, but happened so quickly that it wasn't until it was over that i had any real reaction to it other than doing.
i played many hundreds of different pinball games and the scoring range on them can be very different. i haven't played any now for many years because the arcades are gone and i don't look for them any more. i think my favorite game is called the Addams Family. a high score on there could go in the hundreds of millions. another game i liked a lot was called Eight Ball and i don't even remember what the high scores were like on that one, perhaps over a hundred thousand or so.
i don't run MS windows/etc here at all i use the Debian Linux distribution and have for over 20yrs. i did have some games and things on windows98 and XP that i ran for some years but eventually i stopped using them and then got rid of MS entirely. i'm not sure if any particular game will run on a program which is called wine but some people do that. and now there is a MS environment that they run Linux in so it's getting all mushed together again.
as for your specific question, it really will depend upon the program and the drivers involved as to whether it would work in a newer version of windows. i'm not an expert in Windows at all.
cold today and some snow and possibly some freezing tonight.

Wow this thread has drifted a little from weather but I'll join in. I was never a fan of pinball games but ages ago I liked an arcade game called Missile Attack, was pretty good at it. Then there was one called Asteroids where your little space ship had to blow up all the asteroids, each round there were more asteroids and they were faster. Bonus awarded was more ships. I was the asteroids guru at the college town bar I frequented, could go take a leak and get back before the asteroids blew up all my bonus ships. By far my favorite ever and I even still play it once in awhile is the original Starcraft by Blizzard. It's a real time combat game which employs actual strategy, in some ways much like chess. Play it against the computer or against other people. The programmers of this game were geniuses, each of the three races involved are completely different in capabilities but over all, equally matched. I think it was made for Windows 98. I found the old disks a few years back and plugged them in to windows 10 and they just freaking installed, completely, no activation codes even needed and the whole thing installed, don't even need the disks to play. After close to twenty years the sound of hoards of zerglings being slaughtered by Terran siege tanks echoes once again along with the annoying warnings, you need more vespene gas. The woman hasn't gotten back into it yet, I guess she's still pissed about when she invaded my primary base with a full fleet of Protoss carriers and I nuked the sons of bitches, no extra loss to me as nothing else was going to stop a fleet of carriers. O'yea, our days of overly warm switched over to a period of cool wet, one or the other I guess.
