That next week I will be planting the very earliest of my Sweet corn varieties. I have decided to go huge on the early varieties and beet everyone to market witht he bulk of my sweet corn so I don't get stuck with bushels of mid-season and late season corn at the height of the season, I'm going to put out 2 acres each of Early Sunglow and Seneca Arrohead and should have it ready a week or so before the fourth of July securing my investment!
I'm also going to be planting some of 2112 sweet corn material from last year, from saved, mixed seed of Early Sunglow and Seneca arrohead, it will be a small plot for home use, seed saving and selection work. The seed, provided a good crop, will once again be available here this fall.
I will also be planting the very earliest patch of Astronomy Domine which won't be crossed with Silver King, to select for an OP, cool soil and emergence tolerant, multi-colored sweet corn.
Later I will be planting my mixed acerage of Astronomy Domine crossed to Silver King for both the late corn market, home use, as well as seed selection. Of course provided a good crop these will once again be available here this fall!
Kim's father and I are also planting a few acres of late corn such as Silver King and Bodacious on his farm, lots to do the next month or so!
Looking forward to every minuite in the dirt!

Alan:
I will be crossing Astronomy Domine with Argent and I was thinking of a small patch with orchard baby, a very dwarf corn at 3-4 feet high, but I am not sure, the taste of the people is really sweet here, I might as well decide to add the se gene to OB too, seems less counter-intuitive than going for a dwarf nobody wants because it lacks sugar.
What you people in the south call a good roasting corn is , at best, compost material here, so why fight the tastebuds of the people...after all I try to create something for the local taste. I'll see if I can get enough OB to send your way if you want it, I would need to know...
