Well by the end of this week I should have about four combined acres of Early Sunglow, Seneca Arrowhead, Astronomy Domine, and 2112 in the ground and it's so much easier this year since I actually bough and figured out how to properly use my little custom one row John Deer planter, will keep everyone updated.
The 2112 (Early Sunglow F2 X Seneca Arrowhead F2) went in the ground today, it will be interesting to see what we get, I'm really hoping for a bi-color, eventually open pollinated, SU, 55-60 DTM variety named in honor of the Rush album!

All of these early types are in the ground now, after I checked on the seed the other night it appears that they have already started germinating, I'm hedging my bets that astonomy domine will actually emerge first and might even be able to take a very light frost, though I hope we don't have to see selection of it occour in that way.
Of course this was just the straight mix and hybrids of A.D. and not the Astronomy Domine crossed to Silver King I have been preaching about all winter which will be planted in a couple of weeks since Silver King has such poor cool soil emergence characteristics, seeds of both hybrids of course will be availble here this fall!

Alan.
How did Seneca Arrowhead and Early Sunglow do for you this year? For us mid May turned off cold and wet which messed things up a bit and most plants didn't recover for a while. When did you start picking sweet corn from these two varieties? How about your 2112?

Alan, how was the MERLIN? Planted the 2 pounds I sent you? As far as our northern taste is concerned, very few people around Rockland who have tasted it would even look at any Seneca corn. But regional tastes vary soooo much in corn...

It wasn't a great year for sweet corn this year. A lot of seed rotted in the wet ground and replanting on a mass scale was required. The Merlin didn't do much of anything, what did make it the animals got a hold of. Seneca Arrowhead as always proved the winner, good yields, nice early corn, ready about a week prior to the 4'th of July. Early Sunglow mostly rotted in the ground, what lived we ate ourselves. 2112, in a small plot, did very well and gave us some nice F-3 seed and something to eat on. It definitely inherited the cold soil tolerance I was looking for, seed was selected from only the earliest and nicest ears, maturity was a bit sporadic with some cobs taking up to two and a half weeks more to mature. Overall for an early season market garden I would stick with Seneca Arrowhead, but in time 2112 will make for a good OP alternative.

Has anyone checked the price on Seneca Arrowhead lately? What are the current prices? The only places I deal with all sell it by the 1,000 count which makes it pricey per pound.
