My first patch of PICKANNINY corn is tasseling at 12-16 inches high. They were started in cells, like others, and then planted during that hugly no-sun period of 6 weeks we got. I can't believe it, even my CHIRES BABY, for miniature immature ears of corn is bigger.
Did this already happen to anybody? I am talking a couple of hundred plants here, in very rich soil...

I think it's because you started them in cells. They were unable to send down those early taproots that bring up the nutrients needed for stalk growth.

Possibly because they were started in cells, I agree, in fact, I feel pretty sure it is the reason. All the others reacted quite differently though.
As for the taproot part, corn does not have any. It has strong but quite superficial roots.
