I'm just about to order some tea plants from a family-owned company (Seeds, Leaves, and Flowers) out of Florida. I didn't see any threads on tea; does anyone grow it? I'm wondering it I will have good luck, since the summer evenings here are warm and humid, and from what I've read, they like cooler nights with warm days. The price is $40.00 for 4 good size plants, no shipping. Any input would be welcome!

Is that a special type of camellia?

I don't think so. Just regular tea plant. Do you think the price is too high? I was hoping someone had heard of this company before I order. The name is Seeds, Leaves, and Flowers, but I haven't found anything except for tea plants on the site. I drink so much hot tea, I'll recoup this amount in no time!

It should be camellia sinensis. I haven't heard of that company before, but I don't order many tender plants. I think Logees Greenhouse usually carries it, and I have ordered from them numerous times. Plants I get from them don't always live long, but that is more my fault than theirs. I drink lots of tea myself and have thought of trying to grow my own. Not sure how the processing would go.

The processing is very interesting, as whether you get green tea or black depends on how you harvest and process it. I think I am going to go ahead and order from these people. Plants are garanteed. I might just get one of the bigger ones in a ten gallon pot for $25. The bushes get really big, so I think I only have room for one. Hopefully it isn't money wasted.

I've read that they are hardy to zone 8, will you be able to leave it outside year round? It seems worth it to me to buy the big pot if the shipping wouldn't be too much.

Yes, I think so. I might have to cover it a couple of winter nights, but I do so with other plants, so no big deal. I am ordering today!
