What I would like to know- is what dates approx do you guys in the northern parts of the USA and also in Canada actually plant out your young melon plants,
The reason I ask this is because like several other people worldwide-I tend to plant them out a bit too early in previous years, but this year I am hanging on to them a bit longer and have potted them up into bigger pots whilst I wait for the right moment to plant them out- they are good strong plants and have reached the stage where the little curly tendrils have just begun to appear that normally grab onto sticks and things like cucumbers do.
I know that it must be sometime between june and july when you normally plant them out-but when exactly.

Michael, we just planted out our squash and melons this past week. We generally wait for nighttime temperatures to hit 10+C, before doing so. Sometimes this occurs in late May, but can go as late June. It is the reason I went to paper pots. You can make larger pots to pot up into and when the weather gets right, tear off the upper 1" or so (to prevent the paper from wicking the moisture away from the roots) and then plant the melons out, pot and all. We are in zone 5/6 if that helps.
