I bought a couple pounds of fingerling taters and I LOVE them...I have to grow some next year. Also tried gooseberries for the first time and chippolinni (sp?) onions....I went to our local farmers market and went nutty..

I bought some pink flesh and red flesh fingerling types recently. Best potatoes I have ever eaten. Truly amazing. I planned to save some to plant but my wife ate them all.

This winter get some fingerling seeds from Tom Wagner and by fall you should have enough to eat and hide some for planting next spring. Or maybe Michel can be persuaded to giving you a few in the spring to plant. They are delicious, and yes, Michel we are growing some from the plants that grew when you sent us some last year. Can hardly wait until they are ready.

Sounds like something for my fall planting? Speaking of which Val, I can't find seed potatoes! I even tried Moose Tubers with no success. I'm gonna try a local farm store cause I want to get some onion sets and some cabbage starts as well... Also need to get mulch and stuff. But fingerlings do fit my "unusual" bill it sounds... How are they at keeping?

All the ones I grew are excellent keepers. In fact, all heirloom taters are good keepers, otherwise the old folks would not have kept them going. I guess I could be coaxed to send some Actually, I have a voluntary patch of Pink Fir Apple in the garden, it's been there for 3 years now. They are all delicious and especially firm. The most beautiful is HAIDA. Every time I take one in my hands I want to take a picture ;D

Excuses, excuses. If they are in the ground how can you get your hands one? Sorry, just kidding but I hope you will post pictures when you dig them.

Grungy, I actually took loads of pictures with a bad camera, and since I was moving ( shaking or whatever) a bit, they ended up fuzzzy.
I'll take care of it this year my love...

Mike if you could hook me up with some fingerlings for next year that would be great. If not I can order some. Either way my wife liked them so much she was reading on how to grow potatoes.

Every year I tell myself that I am no longer going to grow those prolific monsters. By monsters, it's the foliage of German fingerlings rather than the tubers. One time I simply prepared a low round mound about 3' across and hilled to almost a foot. Spaced at about 6" throughout to use them up, turned into an almost solid mound of potatoes. Couldn't find enough fellow gardeners to take most of them. Somehow ended up using most of them and giving the excess away for seed. Had plenty left this year and set them out for anyone to help themselves. Ended up bringing them back home and dumping them in the compost tumbler. But I won't be without them this winter. A few volunteers are growing in the home garden and 8 monster plants are trying to take over another garden!

Wow Martin! It might take me a couple years, but I'm gonna get potatoes like yours one day! Speaking of which, our oak leaf source fell through. On the good side, we'll sub our own leaves which have some oak for the time being and we have 7 new oaks planted with another 7 being planted this fall.

Where around here did you go to find the fingerlings? Downtown farmer's market? Andersons Fresh Market?
