I tasted something like 300 ears of corn this year as part of my sweet corn breeding project. I hereby award the best tasting prize to..... Spero's Sparkler
Congratulations Jonathan and Jessie
Of the 70 "Sparkler" seeds that I planted (and back-crossed to se+) 10 were identified as really sweet (presumably homozygous sugary enhanced). The taste is robust and flavorful. Much better than the insipid commercial varieties of sugary enhanced I have been growing. I just had to share one ear of non-homozygous with my landlady. She was very impressed. Thanks Jonathan and Jessie.

Sparkler is indeed a wonderful cultivar, it is also a component (well, it's F2 derrivative anyhow) in the newest permeation of Astronomy Domine.
I wish Spero would drop in on conversations more, his work and dedication to sweet corn is absolutely astounding and he has a lot he could teach all of us.
