Hello everyone,
Since no one has introduced themselves yet I thought I'd get us started. I'm Kimi, and I'm Alan's girlfriend, we've been together nearly a year now. I have several hobbies, reading (Anne Rice and JK Rowling, yes...I'm a dork), writing poetry and sometimes short stories, helping Alan with the business and learning absolutely every thing that I can about it. I also like to hike, fish, go camping...and a lot of other stuff too.
I look forward to getting to know everyone and learning all that you have to teach us! ;D

I'm Toni, I live in western new york between Rochester and Buffalo. We get the lake effect snows from Lake Erie and Lake Ontario each winter but we are zone 5. I have a small orchard, cherries, pears, plums, apples, apricots, peaches and english walnuts. We also have grapes, and a fairly good sized garden and chickens. The above takes up most of my time. I'm a housewife, my husband is a graphic artist. When he retires in two years he will be in charge of more of the food growing. We like to yard sale but mostly stay home and try to save as much money as possible. We recycle as much as we can for the garden equipment and chicken pens. I'm always interested in how other people find inexpensive ways to do things.

I guess since i have posted so much i better tell about myself. I was raised on a farm and had to work on it as soon as i was able to walk lol. Back in my youth kids were free labor and did not cost money like now days. I was a avid hunter and fisherman until i hurt my back . After two surgeries and permanent nerve damage i am now on disability. Before you ask no i could not hold a job ( thro i wish i could as i miss working). After i work in my garden i have to take pain pills besides my maintance drugs. I often am layed up for weeks at a time and could-not have a garden without my wife. I now own a small farm that was left to me. I still like to go fishing when i feel good enough and i can talk my fishing buddy into the idea.

Where to start? I live in Suburbia, in Dutch Country Pennsylvania. I work as a service technician (mechanic) for a company the manufactures Volumetric Cement Mixers. You know what a cement truck lookes like, I'm sure, the ones with the big rotating barrels. Ours are a bit different. They carry all of the materials (sand, stone, cement, and water) separately, and mix just the concrete needed for the job.
My garden is 32 by 40 feet, in raised beds. I guestimate the actual planting space to be about 600 square feet. Virtually everything is heirloom or antique, and definitely organic.
Since I try to recreate a colonia or frontier feel, my family likes to call the garden "Little Williamsburg" because they say it reminds them of Historic Williamsburg, VA. All of the structures are either rough, unfinished wood, bamboo, or cut saplings with the bark still in place.
I also have seven dwarf apple trees grafted to twelve varieties, two pears on an espalier frame, a fig tree, and several stands of small fruits.
