Baby goats arriving! Had 4 does freshen in about the last week, and 2 more left to go. There isn't much more cute than a newborn nubian baby who hasn't grown into their big floppy ears learning how to run and jump and bounce around! Unlike the usual stereotype of goats, bottle raised nubians act far more like dogs (with a prey animal complex) than the usual barnyard critter. They cuddle, give kisses and hollar for you to pick them up just like little puppies... wish these were better pics, so you can see just how cute these babies really are. even more i wish you could actually see and enjoy them like i do. they would bring a big smile to your day. i hope you enjoy them! one of the little girls. Her mom comes from the Kastdemur herd in CA, one of the leading Nubian breeders in the world. I was incredibly lucky to get Blondie, she is the kind of quality I strive for but in most cases couldn't afford. I have 2 of her 2010 daughters and they are maturing in a way that exceeds my expectations. I hope to show them this April for the first time, and see just how they stack up against some very stiff competition. Attachments:

this little girl is tiny-about 2.5 lbs at birth, less than half the size of her brother. but she sure is loud! she hollars the loudest of all 8 when i haven't produced a bottle of milk fast enough for her! and has no problems pushing the boys 4x her size out of her way to get there first! i just might keep her, she has personality and presence in such a tiny package. I predict she will be one of those rare does that exudes a certain attitude and look that makes her stand out in the crowd, an elegance that cant be defined. You can't see that from the pic, but there's just that special air about her. And she gives just the best kisses and cuddles... Attachments:

this little guy has definite herd sire potential! i am really pleased with him, his mom freshened with a really impressive udder i think would do well in the show ring. and she has a great temperment and is the best milker i have for her size. his 2010 sister is going to get shown this year and i have high hopes for her, she just gets better and better all the time. this little guy can already jump on and off a hay bale and play high speed tag with his brother-at 4 days old...and when his long little legs get tangled up and he falls butt over teakettle, he jumps up, spins around, head going every which way as if looking to see just who tripped him up! can't help but laugh, they sure do brighten your day..... the world gives us just such amazing wonderful things to enjoy, these guys are a small miracle of adaptation- perfectly fitting a niche on my little farm, eating browse that could not sustain cows and with reasonable thoughtful care the herd produces delicious, creamy, easy to digest A2 milk, awesome cheese, lean meat, soft supple leather, awesome fertilizer that needs no composting (goat manure looks exactly like rabbit pellets) and not the least of what they bring to us is affection and pleasure. they really are the perfect homestead animal. a few goats, chickens and a good garden goes a long way to self reliance and being able to set a healthy table. they enrich our land, our lives and our future. a well manged herd of healthy show quality goats can pay for itself in a few years, an integral part of a functioning full circle that that is sane, sustainable and so very satisfying to body and soul. I am blessed. Thanks for looking, hope you enjoy it. Attachments:

I kept goats for several years in the 1990's. Mostly French Alpines. I had to give them up when I needed a real job but I so miss those goat babies.

Amazing and congratulations, you will have to get a picture of the little female in with the boys so we can see the difference in size.
