Why are "we the people" so adept at voting these walking talking curses into office to begin with? And STILL, we clearly have one of the best political systems on earth? Is it just me, or is the situation truly mind boggling?

When campaigning, they want our approval; when elected, they are AUTHORITY.

Is it just me, or is the situation truly mind boggling? If we did have the best political system we would've paid our debts as a country long ago, and would be free from many other problems that we have. In short, ours sucks.

We had a pretty good system until ~30 years ago. We can have one again, but only if we pay more attention to it than we do to tabloid "news". Our sense of social responsibility needs to be renewed. The country depends on the efforts of "we, the people", not "they, the politicians", who are our servants, not our rulers. We, as well as they, need to remember that. The United States was founded in opposition to tyranny, whether from monarchy, church, or money, too powerful to be made answerable for its actions by the citizenry.

Really Nuts? Are you serious? It's VERY rare to take that attitude. I'm almost finished reading the bible for the 3rd time in as many years. I've discovered that reading from beginning to end lends a very VERY different meaning that when one reads here and there. It's also why we worship at home.

Political systems (and social ones) start going to hell when we start to forget that they take constant work to keep them functioning properly, and that we are the ones that have to do the work. We start sliding downhill as soon as we let someone else do it, because it's easier. Unfortunately we build the kind of system we deserve. (This is not meant as a swipe at anyone in particular, either on the forum or off = it is just a statement that enough of the general public would rather "let George do it" than even contemplate breaking a sweat to help accomplish anything, or even maintain the status quo. I seldom comment on politics in general or in particular, but I think the problem now, in your country and mine, is that there are far too few George Bailey's around anymore (It's a Wonderful Life). We had a George Bailey around here = most common reply to the question "why are you doing that" was = Well, somebodies gotta do it. Unfortunately he passed very suddenly, and there are no replacements in sight.

At this time and date I think we have just about hit the low spot when our president threatens to see that SSI checks will not be sent out, Like lets beat the dead horse with a stick some more and make people afraid that they might not get their SSI check. Obama won't even put his hand over his heart and say the pledge of allegiance to the American Flag, I hope we can get him and others like him out of the white house while we can, and take back our country, The American people didn't put us in dept with other countries, our government did, it started way back when and every year it gets worse, and we might all find ourselves standing in a bread line like we did during the great depression, especially if we let Obama continue to run things. George W.

You need to take a break from hating on Obama long enough to read the Constitution, not spout platitudes about what you're told it says, but actually read it.
You might be surprised to find that the President, any President, not just the current one, has no authority in matters of what money is spent for what purposes. That authority rests solely with Congress. All spending and taxation is proposed in the House and approved, or not, in the Senate. So we can bitch all we want about what the President does, but the pursestrings are controlled by Congress ( which is why the "war" in Viet Nam ended when Congress stopped appropriating the money, not before ). This might be a clue as to when the "wars" in Iraq and Afghanistan will end.
In short, all the finger-pointing at Obama is just distraction by the people in Congress who don't want to legislate ( their job, according to the Constitution ) and don't want the ignorant to wake up to the fact that they aren't doing their jobs.
The American people sat on their brains while Bush/Cheney started two "wars" ( I put the quotes there because Congress, which has the sole authority to declare war, according to the Constitution, hasn't declared a war since WWII ) and put them on credit cards issued by those other countries, not even accounting for them in the federal budgets. It was a Republican Congress that let this be done, not that the Democrats did much better.
Social Security checks? It's Congress that has to make it possible to write those checks, not the President, so if he warns that they aren't doing that and states what will be the results of their ideological grandstanding, he's only warning the American people to get off their brains and tell these corporate whores to do their jobs: to promote the general welfare ( it's in the Constitution ), not to sell the people out to their Corporate masters.
You want to deny Obama's patriotism? What do you think of Eric Cantor's $15,000 bet on short-selling T-bills while he's threatening not to raise the debt ceiling, knowing that if the U S defaults, he'll make a bundle. So he gets a fat profit by ensuring that the Social Security checks don't go out. There's a REAL patriot, and an exemplary human being! Oh, but he's standing up against Obama, isn't he? What a champion of the people!
Read the Constitution; it's a remarkable document, an understanding of which might broaden one's outlook beyond partisan propaganda.

...I hope we can get him and others like him out of the white house while we can, and take back our country, Take back our country to what? I want to take America forward, not back. Time to go beyond the small town-small mind syndrome of places like Oak Park, MI, that do not want Julie Bass growing her own food.
