Yep, you can use our 'facilities'. Fish in the Lake, well, they have bass tournaments there, and I know there are pike, blue gill and crappie. Bakeries? No, donuts, no, decent coffee, no, chocolate, no, gourmet hot dogs, no. Though I will check with the Lost River Market & Deli about the coffee, they may have some fair trade chocolate and that kind of stuff. Truthfully I haven't been in there in probably a year. Too expensive, and I don't know how to cook anything anyway. Don't really want to learn either. Jo, you give me a list of stuff you will need, I'll have it for you. You can cook in my kitchen anytime.

May need to be a 3 day weekend. Fishermen/women could spend the day at the lake Friday, we could adjust our menu to include their catch.

Your darn tootin' I've got my priorities straight Graham! Except that I really should have asked about toilet facilities first cause after driving 700+ miles, I'm hopping out of the car and making a beeline for the porcelain throne! Uh, it is porcelain in your house isn't it Karen?
And if we've gotta drive that far to get there, then you best be prepared to put up with us for at least a week! Don't worry, if your nice to me, pet me in the mornings, and the TP is soft, I just MIGHT make you a pair of socks to say "Thanks for allowing us to squish your grass!"
I'm getting pretty good at making socks. I finished my 6th pair this month a couple hours ago. My sons think new wool socks are the greatest things since roller skates and they've got the bruises from sliding into the oven to prove it!
Alan, Karen, are you guys REALLY sure you want us planted in your yard for a week?

::laughing:: I didn't read both pages! Karen, I come with my own 50 lb sack of flour, kosher salt, Callebaut callet (that's the chocolate), and I'll get a print out of all the Costco stores along the way to insure the best coffee. I'll tell Mike to pack up the Gaggia (espresso machine) too. Iffn you like "frou frou" coffee, my hubby will be your main man before we leave. He makes a Truffle Mocha cappuccino with French truffles that I SWEAR will make you swoon. How are we gonna decide who's yard I'm gonna stay in? I do pretty good crepes with Nutella, fried bananas in caramel sauce, and chopped peanuts. Does that help any? Karen, did I mention that I think you are pretty darn awesome to put something like this together? Thanks! You to Alan and Kimi!

Oh was there a food payement for the camping? I'll bring my husband who can make a mean paella and tortilla de patata. Is that okay? I can cook stuff too but it doesn't have fancy sounding names.

No Telsing! He's a Spaniard? We could have a tortilla de patatas COOK OFF! LET THE BEST COOK WIN! Oh Karen, this WHOLE thing has just gone to another level! As for paella... well... all I can say is that I can supply some awesome seafood for this. We get exquisite shrimp and scallops that could make a grown man cry. PLEASE allow me to facilitate the production of a paella fest! Also need to start talking wines. What about a tasting event? Mike and I have at least a couple of gallons that we could bring for something like this. I also have a VERY small amount of Cinnamon Peach wine that is approaching it's 10th anniversary. And with the tortilla de patatas we will definitely need some excellent bread. You can certainly plan on having me bring my monster mixer and baking up several batches. The oatmeal bread I've been making would pair very well. I'm gonna have to look into some gluten free bread as well. Karen, I somehow think that food will NOT be an issue...

Jo & Telsing-my kitchen is your kitchen. Did I mention I have double ovens? I don't use them, but I have them. Actually you could have 3 ovens going at once, as our daughter has an apartment in the garage. I better start cleaning my kitchen.... I don't drink wine myself, I prefer a Long Island Iced Tea made by my friend Randal at El Compadre, but a wine tasting would be great. Everyone can bring what they have made. There is also a winery in French Lick if anyone would like to go. I think that there would be enough stuff to keep you entertained for a week around here, as long as you like outdoorsy, nature type stuff. There are some really pretty places to hike in Crawford county, just nowhere really good to eat. And you have to hold your bladder for quite a few miles sometimes.

Blue, you have been to Greencastle? Yes, we stayed there one night on our way to Missouri and Oklahoma to do some visiting. We saw the map of Covered Bridges in the area, and thought we would go see one on our way out of town. We drove in before dawn, through a field. But once the sun came up, it all looked so different, and we had a terrible time finding the laneway out...Sounds silly, I know. But you had to be there I guess?

Yup, my husband - Jose - is a Spaniard. My kids are bilingual whereas my tongue is mostly of one stripe, I can be forced to speak other languages, namely spanish and very bad french.

DOUBLE OVEN? You are joking woman. You don't cook and you have a double oven? ::sigh:: I am SO jealous! Well, maybe not since you are willing to share! ;o)
Telsing, that is to fabulous! Where is your husband from? My dad is from Mallorca. Have you been able to take the kids to visit their family there? ::laughing:: Oh yea, my dad is "Jose" as well.

He's from Madrid and we go every 2 or 3 years usually. It's a strain on our pocket books and the planet!

What a blessing the experience will be for your kids! My dad took me every couple of years when I was a kid. A total of 8 visits. I can remember the sights, sounds, smells, and of course my family, as though it were yesterday. Of course all the 3 years olds I remember from my last visit more than 30 years ago are a tad more mature these days... We are hoping to make a trip in Spring of 2011. We'll go to Spain then to Germany to visit our best friends who are currently stationed there. Our last trip to Spain included some time in Madrid. Not much time, but I got to see the Plaza del Sol and we went to El Prado. On one of the first trips when I was 3, we went to Barcelona and visited the zoo and there was a children's area with tiny miniature houses. What memories. You'll be glad you took your children there in later years.

IDEA: Manly Competition - wood splitting contest? digging or furrowing contest? WEEDING CONTEST! (for the kids, I'd pony up a cash prize on this one!)
IDEA: A fund with 5 POTENTIAL purposes Purpose 1: BEFORE the event: Aid to facilitate getting folks there, first to ask, first to recieve. When the cash is gone it's gone. Purpose 2: DURING the event: Purchase supplies or "stuff" we suddenly realize we need. Purpose 3: FINALIZING the event: Emergency car repair or unforseen costs to get folks home. Purpose 4: FOLLOWING the event: Paying off over and above cost of utilities, food, fuel, or whatever, incurred by the hosts. Purpose 5: IF, there is any money left, save it for the next event.
RULES: 1. Make a donation ONLY if you have no need for the money. 2. Host(s) determine where to spend the money and NO ONE questions their decisions, not even other hosts. 3. If there are multiple hosts, (like this time we have Karen and Alan) each has access to and responsibility for an equal part.
These are just a couple thoughts I came up with on my way to pick up supplies for the hoped for snow coming our way. Feel free to say "Ok Jo, you can shut up right about now, your giving me a headache!" The money thing might not be a good idea to anyone else and I won't be hurt if you discard it. I really like the idea of watching the guys have at a wood pile though. WAY more entertaining than the Chippendales! ;o)

I should add that the money would be used primarily to fullfill Purpose 1. IF there was money left over, the leftovers could be used to fullfill Purpose 2. IF there was money left over, they could be used to fullfill Purpose 3, and so on.
